Accessing Beat Building Blocks files in Music Maker Premium (64-bit)

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/5/2022, 6:00 AM

I downloaded and unzipped Beat Building Blocks from DeviantNoise but can't access any of the files from within Music Maker through the file manager. I read the tutorial on VST plug-ins and can't make heads or tails of what I'm doing wrong.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

I'm running Windows 11 on Dell I5 laptop with 8GB RAM.

Hi

See this video from DeviantNoise, it may help - although using FL Studio the principles are the same in Music Maker for audio and MIDI files.

Yeah, I've already watched that video and the narrator conveniently skips over the step of adding the plug-in for some reason.

I think the problem I'm having may be due to the fact that although I purchased the Music Maker PREMIUM, the version I have running is the FREE version for some reason.

How would that have happened? I don't think the FREE version allows for adding 3rd party VST plug-ins.

What do I need to do to resolve these issues?

Hi

Assuming you have activated the program with the serial number you received by email from Magix - you only need to do this once - on the Music Maker start screen checked that you are logged in - your email address should appear in the top right pane of the start menu, if not click the 'Join' button and log in with the email address and password used to activate the program.

If the program was not activated with the serial number from Magix and all the extra content downloaded and installed - do this first.

Hi,

Music Maker is free. MM Premium Edition is not the program.

See this tutorial to understand how it all works.

Hi John

I was looking for that one when replying above, it is not in the Tutorial section.

Ok. The video helped me activate the PREMIUM edition and load the soundpools/collections.

So my last question is regarding adding 3rd party VST plug-in Beat Building Blocks. I ASSUME this is a VST plug-in, but now I don't think so. I went into Program Settings and then the Folders tab, selected add VST path, but when I go the folder where the files are stored (which is my Download folder), nothing comes up. See attached.

No it's not a VST is a collection of audio samples and loops and midi patterns.

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/5/2022, 12:27 PM

Ok. So how do I access them then? Is it explained in the Help files?

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/5/2022, 12:53 PM

When I try to access them through File Manager, I'm able to open the Downloads folder, but none of the sub-folders where the files are located are shown.

Hi

. . . .  File Manager, I'm able to open the Downloads folder, but none of the sub-folders where the files are located are shown . . .

I suspect these folders are 'hidden' - can you see the subfolders using Windows File Explorer - ensure show Hidden and System folders is checked?

In Windows File Explorer, all the files and sub-folders can be seen. I'm talking about the File Manager in MUSIC MAKER.

SP. wrote on 6/5/2022, 4:52 PM

@dmstar1956 You should be able to drag and drop the files directly from the Windows Explorer into your project. I'm not sure why the folder isn't visible in the File manager. Maybe you need to refresh the view?

dmstar1956 wrote on 6/5/2022, 7:05 PM

Ok. I figured everything out. The Beat Building Blocks files were compressed and I hadn't extracted them yet, so I extracted the files to a new folder and now I can view/open all of the files (in their respective folders) in Music Maker's File Manager.

Thanks for all of your help.

@dmstar1956

Hi,

Just a follow up. You should never use anything directly from your Downloads folder. Always put whatever you download in the proper place. The Downloads folder is definitely not one of them.

VST files usually need to be installed and there are designated places where you are supposed to put them.

64 bit plugins usually should be put in subfolders here:

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins

For 32 bit plugins:

C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins
