A way to automatically apply process: mute during the pauses in speech

Almost all of my editing time is spent muting the pauses between phrases in recorded speech (and most of that time is spent listening for inhales before the next phrase or sentence. Is anyone away of a way for Sound Forge to automatically go through an entire file and mute all pauses (perhaps mute everything of a certain length when there is no sound above a certain db)? Many thanks.

"Tools> Auto Region" should speed up the process. This will place region markers on the timeline when the amplitude drops below a user set threshold. There are also attack and release parameters like a dynamics processor to further tweak the response. It probably won't be 100% perfect, so I would confirm you're not cutting any wanted content before deleting. I recommend making backup of the audio before any destructive editing is done or save as a SF Pro project file which is non-destructive.
