A Question on Video Effects

Blue-Hatter wrote on 9/27/2012, 5:27 PM

Greetings,

I have a question about video effects in Movie Edit Pro... Or rather, if it's possible to achieve an effect like this, if such an ability exists.

I don't know if there's a function to achieve this (though for some reason I thought I remembered reading that there was, but I can't swear to it), but is there a way to give an imported movie file a more animated look? Perhaps something that might add something like an outline to the graphics in the video, soften/reduce colors, or something like that? Perhaps something similiar to the "Poster Edges" function in Photoshop.

I'm working on a project that I would like to give at least a little bit of an animated quality to-- even a simple, rough quality would be fine-- but I'm not sure if anything like this is possible within Movie Edit Pro, without going into a program like Photoshop and editing each and every frame as an image first.

Is there some sort of function like this in MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus? Any help woul be much appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. I apologize for not having this in the "Questions" section... I can't figure out how to get this into that section. I thought I was doing it right but it appeared in "Dicussion" nonetheless.

Hi

There is a plug in effects package called NewBlue Art Effects which contains an art filter called Pastel Sketch which is probably close to what you are looking for.

So there is nothing sort of similar in Movie Edit Pro itself, without going through and purchasing a different program? That's unfortunate.

Ah well. It was worth a try. Thank you.

Hi

I have tried manipulating an image  usng the standard effects available in MEP and cannot get anywhere near what you require.

The NewBlue effects are plugins for MEP and many other video / image editing software as shown in the image.  As you say unfortunately they have to be purchased

Hi

There is a New Blue effect called Cartoonr Plus that was offered as a free plug in with MEP a few versions ago and it is still downloadable for free. If you go to that link John has included > Film Effects> Paint Effects page and it is included in a package to buy but on the right there is an embedded player screen showing the effect and offering a free download. I think it is exactly what you are looking for. It is quite customisable but pretty jerky while previewing even on a reasonably powerful system (no hardware acceleration or multi core optimisation) but this does not affect final output.

Give it a whirl.

Hi,

Unlike John and Peter, I can't really visualise what effect you mean. Even after googling 'photoshop poster edges'. Could you show a screenshot example, or a link to something similar?

Meanwhile, as a guess, do you mean something like this?

Scenestealer, that does look like basically what I'm looking for... But I can't seem to find the link to download the plugin for MEP. I see the video, and I see buttoms labeled "Buy It", "Try it" and "Upgrade". Am I supposed to use one of those buttons?

In response to Terrypin's question, Johnebaker is correct, it's basically that. It just gives it a bit more of a "animated" look. I can do a bit more in Photoshop to make the animated effect stronger and more believable, but it would take forever doing that to a few thousand frames through Photoshop.

...Actually, after talking with customer service over on the NewBlue website, they directed me to the link for the download. I also found some other free downloads there. So I think the download was located, I'm just waiting for it to finish now. Now I'll just have to find them in MEP after I install them.

Thank you for the information, everyone! It's much appreciated.
