A query relating to slideshows

me_again wrote on 12/18/2021, 4:55 AM

Greetings

This is really a continuance of my post nearly half way down this page https://www.magix.info/us/forum/release-movie-edit-pro-2022-your-experiences-your-movies--1281607/ which is the original post about MEP 2022. I was going to post this query there but decided against it (as you may have noticed!) so apologies if that's wrong.

I've had a major problem trying to create a slideshow with initially 254 photos - a number comfortably handled by MEP 2021 and indeed mostly by MEP 2022. This morning MEP 2022 went through the process of (apparently) loading every photo into memory with 100% disk usage; the amount of available RAM being almost 10Gb so I can only imagine that Virtual Ram(?) was being used. When I tried to modify a photo MEP 2022 stuttered and paused for an average of 3 seconds before letting me perform another task. Re-converting the pictures gave a slight improvement.

Other photos that are much larger in size don't normally give this problem.

SLOW - Resolution Unit: None X Resolution: 100 Y Resolution: 100

GOOD - Resolution Unit: inches X Resolution: 72 Y Resolution: 72

I know my system is now below par but it does handle 4K with no problem and most of the photo work I do. I've already asked my son to build me a bespoke system but that won't be until Easter 2002 at the earliest, apparently a new kitchen is far more important!!

Any Ideas?

Hi Andy.

I think the problem is in the colour spacing in the line.

Y Cb Cr Sub Sampling            : YCbCr4:4:4 (1 1)

Normally a jpeg would read

Colour space YUV

Chroma Subsampling 4:2:2

I have seen others here with problems with Cr4:4:4 colour profiles in the past. Normally from Canon cameras so far.

The GOOD - Resolution Unit: inches X Resolution: 72 Y Resolution: 72 is a reference to printers as to how many dots per inch to print the image at.

The Slow version is possibly how many dots per inch to print at to reduce noise in the image when you print and get above a certain ISO value.

Also why does the file say Modified? Has it been edited and if so what program did you use or did you make a jpeg from a raw file in camera? I ask because it is an amazingly small file data wise from a 16MP camera.

Ray.

@CubeAce

Thanks for the reply Ray it's made things a little clearer; I now know what to look out for.

Having said that, I've now checked some photo's with YCbCr4:4:4 (1 1) that i've used before for slideshows that worked with MEP 2021 and they've all shown the same problem in MEP 2022.

As for the Slow.jpg being modified I can't really answer that. These are some pics that my father took with his new Minolta at the time and I can only assume he converted them to jpg with something - probably the software that came with the camera. It's a little tricky to ask him if you get my meaning.

Hi Andy.

I've just noticed the original file was taken in 2008 and presumably has been edited as the file size is so small and the quality setting of 68% is unusual. Quality settings normally increase in different percentage numbers to that.

There are a few other anomalies of code lines I don't understand but only because I have never used the exiftool for data but tend to get stills data from my photo editing software.

My data looks more like this
