A Line

nirvanray wrote on 3/24/2013, 3:19 AM

Dear Friends,
I have the problem which I named it as ‘Line’. I want to dissolve one video with another. That is successfully done by putting the files on timelines one after another.
However there is a line from the second video (One placed at the bottom) that kills the effect.
Is there a method from which I can remove this effect---the line one?
I have attached the screenshot for your kind understanding.
Regards.

Hello Anirban,

As the "direction of viewing" is from bottom and up, the clip on track 2 is visible and the clip on track 1 is in the "shade" at the cursor position. What is your problem?

Hi Anirban

Can you post a higher resolution picture up to Dropbox or somewhere where we can see the timeline clearly. A short video of the 'line' effect would also be useful.

. . . . I want to dissolve one video with another. . . .

Is this what you trying to achieve with the 4 objects on the timeline one very short and then a longer one on track 1 and what looks like duplicated copy on track 2 ?

Maybe my question is not that clear. Aplogogies friends. OK I reframe it once again.
1. I have put two files on top of one another. (They are the same file).
2. Now I enlarged one (File that is one the second timeline through Movement Effects---Section).
3. Then I pulled down the height of the same file (The one in second timeline).
4. An overlap of two files are observed. The one that I desired for.
5. Everything is perfect except that now there is a line (or a shade) of the second file that seems to cut through the first file.
6. I want the total file to look a single one; but with this distinct separation the line it looks that I have forcefully cut two files.

Hope that I am clear. Kindly help.

Regards.

Hi Anirban

If you zoom in on those two ? video objects I think you will find there are four.  It looks like a short section has been cut from the video objects in both tracks and possibly a frame deleted. Hence the black line.

Ok here are the detailed explanations of mine again. I actually need a super-impose effect of two videos on top of another. But as I do so, there is a line (or shade that divides the two).
Below are the explanations through screenshots and a video.
Pic 1: The video
Pic 2:  I copy the same video and place in second timeline. Then I select the part of the video that I need to enlarge (Using Movement Effects---Section)
Pic 3: Then I enlarge the part Using Movement Effects---Size/Position
Pic 4: I place the video on top of the original one in timeline 1 and then I pull down the height of the second one.
Here is the problem now because if you note there is a line that divides the two videos.

My question is how do I remove the line.  I have also attached the video of how it looks with the line.
Please help and regards.

Hi,

have you tried placing an Alpha mask between the two clips? It seems to work here for me, but sorry, I am occupied with something else now and must cut out the PC.

Cheers A.

Hi Anirban

The line is the edge of the section of the enlarged overlay - as Asoeli say you need a mask to fade the edge of the lower clip into background video - however the mask you need must be feathered - here is one of mine for you to download and try.

Hello John,

Thanks for your help, explanation and the file as well. But can you please tell or show me how do I do that.

Hello Anirban, I will try to help you start.

1 Pull the clip on track no 2 down to track no 3.

2 Go to Effects > Video effects > Chroma key and click the triangle at the red ring on my picture.

3 Click  Load effect mask (red line), and a new menu opens, click HD and you will have many mask. Take one of them (or the one Johnebaker uploaded for you) and drag it down to track 2 and mark it.

4 Now click Alpha at the Chroma key, now the mask gets an arrow in the left side, up or down. Clicking the arrow will mirror the mask.

5 You will have to adjust the size of the mask. I think you have a lot to experiment with now.

The effects of alpha mask is that black becomes transparent. The black part of the mask shows what is on track 1, and the white part shows what is on track 3.

Cheers, Andreas

Hi

Thank you asoeli - great instructions.

Apologies Anirban    - I assumed you would know how to use the mask from a previous question posted some time ago.

Cheers

John
