21:9 Aspect ratio support - Movie Edit Pro Plus 2016

Hey all I;m going game capture at 3440x1440 res, that's 21:9 aspect radio. MEPP 2016 will render out that res and will let me edit it, but it can't get the aspect radio right, always resolting in black bars in the video on the top and on the bottom. It will try and detect that the movie is 7:3 but the best I can get is 2.21 aspect, I'm not even sure what that is. Even then I still get back bars.

 

Is there any way at all to force 21:9, even if I have to edit a text file someplace? Thanks all!

By default MEP will be using the Intel codec which has options for 4:3, 16:9 and 2.21 AR video only.

You can export very close to the Aspect Ratio (AR) ie 21:9 (or  2.3888 ratio). 

However this can only be done using the MainConcept MP4 codec  - if you do not have this then it is available for a small fee - see under Help, Install extra content and setting this as the default codec for Import and Export in the programs settings, Import/export tab .

Using the MC codec you can then set the export AR to 2.39 which will give the closest AR to your captured video.

To set the AR in the mp4 export dialog click 1,2 and 3 as shown below and OK the settings.

 

If you get a message saying the export settings are different from the project setting then click Continue, also ensure that the projects resolution and AR are set correctly in the projects settings as shown below

Hi,

I tried your method but unfortunately, I run into issues. With the MPEG-4 FULL Codec from MainConcept (MAGIX Technical Support is stating to use this module only if you can't use the standard one), I can't export on my computer.

I have the GTX 1070Ti A8G so, no problem to export with CUDA enhancement but MainConcept isn't accepting it and throws an unknown error instantly when I start to export my work.

The only solution I've found is to let on "Software" but even then, the export isn't in 21:9 ratio even if I followed your explanation. So, I'm stuck on the standard Mpeg4 with 16:9 ratio.

I'm on MAGIX Video Deluxe Premium 2020 and love this software. I plan to switch in the near future on a more professional one but that's an other story and I'm still not sure which one from MAGIX as I want to keep a similar screen/storyboard, keep my OFX plug-ins but in search of more work options like native support of 21:9 ratio for example.

I suspect that the MainConcept (MC) codec cannot use 'CUDA', which is actually the hardware in the GPU that performs all the necessary functions and actions that are handed to it.

The correct name for the CUDA-based video encoding is NVCUVENC which was dropped from the graphics card drivers in 2014 in favour of the new NVENC which Movie Edit Pro does not support yet.

The 1070 Ti, first released in 2017, drivers do not contain the NVCUVENC capablility, therefore there is no CUDA video encoding.

If you have a 4th generation or later Intel processor than the export can be done using the Default codec. The MC codec has issues with Hardware Acceleration and produces empty ie 0 byte files.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, I'm still on 3rd gen CPU (i7-3770) as it performs really well thanks to being watercooled and overclocked at 4GHz.
Maybe I may first upgrade some parts of my computer before actually trying back 21:9 export videos.
