20FPS CCTV Footage

@DesertSweeper

After seeing @AAProds reply I tried setting the program settings to all use CPU. The playback was smooth but had flaws in the some of the frames that partially had horizontal green streaks in them and a few hiccups in the frames.

I then tried the following as seen in the video beneath but changing all the settings to use Microsoft WARP gave a slightly faster export time.

So it seems best to keep the nvidia GPU out of the equation in the settings but is clearly being used by the program. Like Gid I found it impossible to export at 20fps but exported OK at 25fps.

@cubeace do you think it is worth pulling the NVIDIA GPU out and trying again?

Hi.

I don't think that would make any difference. There is something going on between the program code or the Magic version of the MP4 wrapper and the nvidia drivers. The videos above when they eventually render here may help you see what may be going on. I don't think exporting to 20fps will be possible with MMS (MEP) or VPX as they are not standard MP4 export frame rates.

Just do as I did and export to the higher frame rate or stick to using the Vegas program where it would seem MainConcept is interacting better with the files.

Hi,

Videos recorded by my security cameras are 10fps. To not have any problems, I run them all through Handbrake and get a file with 29.97fps. They work fine in MMS/VPX.

My Wolverine digitizes 8mm and Super 8mm film and gives me a 20fps file. With my project set at 29.97fps, I import these onto the timeline and adjust the Speed to either 16 or 18. The project figures it out and I get the correct speed. Frames are added or interpolated. So far, I have not had to run any of these these through Handbrake.

That said, do not export to a non-standard frame rate even if you can. Use the program to get a standard frame rate that others can use.

Occasionally I get a bad file, sometimes the source file, sometimes from Handbrake, and not just with the security videos. The video editor drags to a halt for about 1 minute or two. In the Task Manager, the drive with the bad file goes to 100% and I can do almost nothing on the computer until I either kill the program or wait until it goes through the process. Even previewing one of these files can cause the same problem. Thus, I run them through Handbrake again. If that doesn't work, I export to MP4 or mxv as the file actually works but not well. Then I close the project and replace the bad file with the new one.

I will try out your video to see what I get.

Thanks for the tips @browj but I have terabytes of legacy footage I need to wade through - its just going to be quicker and easier to plod along with my Vegas Pro 17. Fortunately I just need to assemble clips, so no fancy editing - never could get my around Vegas which is why i switched to VPX

@DesertSweeper @browj2

Out of curiosity I just put the same file I used in MEP through Vegas Pro 18 using Desertsweeps suggested settings and it ripped through the render at a fraction of the time it took me to render in MEP 2022. It made much more use of the Intel and nvidia GPUs than MEP. Output was also able to export to 20fps with no problem.

MediaInfo from Vegas exported render. I could have chosen a much higher bit rate to increase the quality and lessen the compression.

It would seem a no-brainer in this instance as to which program to use for this particular job.

Now this could be a bug that has crept into MMS and VPX or the more cynical might see this as another way Magix is trying to show clear levels of ability between their programs to indicate a clearer upgrade path in capabilities.

@CubeAce Hi, you're not suggesting that a reputable company like Magix are letting MS lag behind or even hobbling it so you end up having to spend more money 😱🤣

Just of curiousity Hitfilm Pro had no prob playing & then exporting @ 20fps,
