Why are recorded tracks bleeding onto other tracks in MMM

sp123 wrote on 3/6/2011, 8:50 PM

Im using MMM16 but have a problem recording additional tracks. Once I record the drums via a drum machine on track one I then want to record bass on another track. The problem is I  keep getting the drum track blleeding onto the bass track. I'm using a  berringer mixer which I have the rca jacks in the mixer and the usb going to the computer. In my file menu on the computer I put the program setting under the Audio/Midi tab to "USB speakers CODEX" which alows me to hear the recorded track while I'm playing bass but when I record the drums keep going on the second track. I use headphones but it seems to be either something I'm not doing with the mixer (played with all the buttons) or something I havent set properly in the MMM program. Can anyone help?

Additional: it seems sound card need settings, and settings depends on sound cards which could be different. As on my Windows vista computer I got very limited settings option while on Xp computer there are many as CBY TLSE suggested.

Hi,

As far as I know Magix Music Maker is not full Daw like Cubase, Cakewalk, Ableton etc.

In Music Maker when we record, the only possibility is, to recrod one track at a time. If you have recorded track 1 mute it and record 2nd track and keep repeating untill you finish recording all tracks then un mute all and play and export.

The problem with this is, you can not listen your 1st track when you record 2nd track.

Hi, have a look to :

http://www.magix.info/fr/recording-live-drum-set-with-magix-15.knowledge.393289.html

With all my sound cards :

SB Creative XFI gamer on my prevoius PC

SAFFIRE PRO 24 DSP on my new PC

I can record only the mic (without music) and hear independently the mix of the music (MMM tracks) and the mic input.

You have to select the line of the MIC in the record menu and the mix output in the program parameters under the AUDIO/MIDI tab. Check all the possibilities in the scrolling list of record input in the record menu. Depending on your sound interface, the mic line may be listed.

Sorry Nihon94, on this point,  I don't agree with your statement.

Regards

CBY TLSE No problem, I always learn from your answer. Just I wish if you could provide screen shot about your sound card and how to connect.  I can understan what you have talked about so far in various answers just need screen shot to understand easily.

It seems as you said settings depends on which sound card we use.

Merci

Hi Nihon94,

I use a Saffire Pro 24 DSP.

I have 4 analog mic inputs :

. 2 mic inputs with integrated preamplifier.
I use the first one to connect a mic. I use it to communicate with the singer who is in another room to avoid the noises of the PC. This the first column.

. 2 lines input. I use the first (line 3) to connect a studio mic through an external tube amplifier dedicated to the singer.

I can define up to 8 mono mixes or 4 stereo mixes which can be assign to the different outputs. You can assign to an output a discrete line or a mix. You can mix until 16 mono inputs in each mix. There is 6 line outputs + 2 headphones outputs with independant volume tuning. I have define several routings to different outputs in this configuration :

1 and 2 for the speakers, only the DAW is assigned to these output (MMM). During the recording the amplifier is muted.

3 & 4 first headphones to monitor the recording. I hear the singer (high) (line3) + mic 1 (my voice to communicate) + the DAW (MMM) low volume.

5 & 6 second headphones for the singer. She can hear the DAW (MMM) normal volume, my voice loud (mic 1), her voice singing.

The monitor man (headphone 3&4) can hear something different of the singer (headphone 5&6)

In the MMM program parameters, the ouput is directed to " ASIO Saffire 1+2 " which name in the mixer is DAW1/DAW2. During the recording I mute the track which is recorded to avoid an echo. The recording through line 3 is directly  mixed at Saffire level with the other elements independently of the program (MMM).

In the recording menu, I select ASIO Saffire 3&4.

Line 3 input is the mic of the singer. In this case I record only one mic. There is no mic linked to line 4.

A real problem of MMM : it is impossible to select only a mono mic (line 3 by ex.). This is not the case with Audacity or LIVE or with the other DAW. Generaly I use AUDACITY and now Live to record. After I mix in MMM. MMM divides by 2 the signal level (L + R)/2. If I want I can record with 2 mics in stereo.  If you have only one mic, which is generaly the case, you get L/2. With the other DAW or Audacity you get the full level signal (confirmed by another French man).

After recording I listen MMM with the speakers (1 & 2) where the DAW is assigned.

You can have several profiles to save your configuration. I have an other configuration for normal work. I have 2 amplifiers linked to my sound card :

. A SAMSON stereo decicated to music (line 1 and 2)
. A 5,1 amplifier for fly simulation (line 3,4,5,6)

This soundcard is very versatile. You can mix what you want and assign to the outputs what you want : a discrete input line or a mix of several lines. There is extra possibilities :

. reverb, compression, equalizer on the mics inputs
. modelisation of different speakers and rooms for headphones mixing.

. Loop back.

Hi, CBY TLSE,

So kind of you for providing screen shot with details.

It was very helpful to understand.

Thank you
