What format are the files in that you are burning to a DVD?  Have you tried exporting them as MPEG-2 DVD format first and THEN burning to a DVD?  If you do that, the MPEG-2 files will not have to be re-encoded during the burning process.  MEP will just incorporate the cilps into the structure of the DVD.  At least if you try it this way, you can find out whether the encoding problem is in the DVD burning portion of the program, or if it's just the format of the original media you're importing.
