Can you maybe add some more to your question please because it's kind of hard to pin point the problem. What is laggy, etc?

The reason I ask is that video and many different video formats are very very resource intensive, it could just be that there are not enough resources available. This does NOT mean you necessarily need more RAM, but if could mean that what is available is not enough and that can be caused by startup programs. 

How are these formats not working properly?

I can tell you if that video material you import is at a different resolution then what you export (meaning taking low res material and exporting it in a higher resolution) you will get pixelation.
