I want to upgrade but the biggest selling point for me is composing. i'm not interested in pasting other people's riffs together and calling it my own. is there extra composing tools in premium or just more midi ?
Magix Music Maker is good for those who just want to drag and drop edit audio and compose music. Music can be selected from the Soundpool. But those who want to record or make own music should try Magix Samplitude or if you like Ableton, Cakewalk, Sonar, Cubase or any other DAW.
Soundpool feature and function in MMM16 is same as in MMM16 Premium except if audio is in Midi or TAK(midi) we can edit further in the Midi Editor
Magix Music Maker 16 and Magix Music Maker 16 Premium. I got both and the difference is in more features more Vst plugins, more soundpool in Premium version than standard.
In MMM 16 Premium there is a Midi Editor but we can not save Midi format.
By composing tools what do you mean? we use Magix Music Maker as a composing tool then for editing there are a lot of tools along with Midi Editor. We can also record from external sources but one channel at a time.
Like nihon94 said, in the Premium version you get a much larger soundpool and the ability to add VST instruments to the Vita MIDI Editor. In addition, you'll get the Revolta 2 synth and the expanded version of Beatbox 2, called Beatbox 2 'Plus', which allows sound synthesis and automation. You also get a maximum of 94 tracks as opposed to only 64 tracks in the Basic version.
You still only have the ability to record one channel at a time, and at a maximum of 24-bit / 48 Hz, although MMM will only export at 16-bit. (You MUST have a sound card capable of recording/playing 24-bit audio to work at that bit rate!) If you need multi-track recording and/or higher bit rates and sampling rates, you need a true DAW like Samplitude.
MMM CAN export MIDI, but only one object at a time and ONLY from within the Vita MIDI Editor and ONLY as Type 0 MIDI. From the arranger, MIDI tracks are exported only as an audio file.
