As johnebaker has said, it is important to know your older version of the Music Maker to guide you properly but. Here is some information sharing.

I use Music Maker 16 Premium

Window Vista Home Premium (Japanese version)

Soundpools of the program are installed on C:Programfile/Magix/MusicMaker16Premium/Basic_16

If I open the Basic_16 folder inside that are various styles such as Hiphop, Rock alternative etc.

What you have talked about is a text file inside each style showing BPM, beat per minute(the speed) and keys.

Each and every style got different BPM such as look at Hipop and Rockalternative they got different BPM and differnt Keys. If you play Piano or Keyboard you will know the keys how the sound differ from one  key to another.

Hiphop

Rock alternative

The problem you are facing might be due to upgrade from one version to another. I think the best way is to reset your soundpool in the upgraded version and if you too got the older version installed you must uninstalled that after backing up all your important data. To solve some soundpool problem you can refer the following PDF tutorial.

Hope this answer might help you.
