Hi Laszlo, and welcome to the user to user forums.

What operating system version are you using?

Has the program worked before or is this your first time using it?

If you are using a 32 bit operating system you can not create or use files larger than 4GB which I'm assuming are being created by trying to record 4 hours of VHS video. In practice the files a 32 bit system can handle may be much less. Between 2.75 GB to 3.5 GB before problems occur.

Even with a 64 bit operating system these, files could be quite large and take time to fully render. I suggest recording shorter lengths at a time and then add them together later.

We have no idea if your PC specs are not good enough if you don't supply the information.

Ray.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. I'm quite a newbee here. I have done a few VHS transfer in the last 2 weeks and it worked OK (I guess) although making a preview doubles up the VHS lenght-time.

Setup:

1.) Video easy Rescue Your Videotapes! (Version 9.0)

2.) PC windows 10 Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042

System Type x64

i5-2310 Prcessor 2.9 Ghz

8 GB DDR3-SDRAM memory

GeForce GT530 with 1 GB dedicated memory

HDD 1.5TB

Thanks

@Laszlo-Farkas

You should also consider transferring it to an external hard drive so as not to max out the built-in storage on your computer with all your VHS transfers.

@Laszlo-Farkas

What format are you saving the files in? I know RYVT can save in a variety of formats and some of them can create very large files!

I regularly transfer VHS and similar analogue footage to computer - though I don't use RYVT - the files are saved as DV-AVI and are about 13GB per hour. So, on my system, a 4 hour tape would be about 50GB! (You can find the details of my system in my signature, below.)

As was suggested by @CubeAce, I think your computer spec is not really high enough to handle the throughput of data which RYVT is creating. The amount of RAM you have is pretty small, your CPU is now quite old and barely sufficient for video editing work and your GPU has only 1 GB of dedicated Video RAM. Also, how much free space is there on your single HDD? In addition, for heavy video work, a separate, dedicated hard drive is always advisable; at the moment, your single drive has to do all the work: run Windows, run RYVT and save your files, no to mention any other processes that might also be running, e.g., your email program.

Sorry to sound so negative but you really are pushing your system up to, and beyond, its limits. However, since you say you have successfully captured shorter videos, why not take Ray's advice and capture your footage in shorter sections, and then join the sections together in RYVT?

So it looks like you need to replace your pc at some point in the future as @emmrecs has stated or either process shorter videos and join them together as @CubeAce mentioned.

Most current PC's have 16gb ram, graphics cards upto 24gb and upto 10th generation CPU's and SSD's instead of HDD for faster processing. A 4Tb external hard drive would accommodate your needs for storage.

A new pc can also accommodate extra storage drives as in SSD and HDD.

But you don't need the most powerful pc, just powerful enough to accommodate your needs.

So you can obviously make the comparison to your own pc.

Any graphical or video processing is power hungry and relies on your Cpu, graphics card and memory to accommodate heavy workload.

I just upgraded to new pc before Christmas, my pc was five years old and it was as great over time for what was required in music production.

@Laszlo-Farkas @emmrecs @PATIENT-X

Hi Laszlo.

According to the specs page for RYVT your system does meet the minimum specs but I suspect you don't have enough ram to record large files. A second drive to record the output to would also certainly help if you are not already recording the output to a separate drive. This type of use of a computer does tend to be ram intensive. If you are running Windows 10, 6.1GB is already in use just to run the operating system. That doesn't leave much ram left to run large file conversions.

Ray.

As @CubeAce stated your pc meets the minimum specs.

A cheaper option is to upgrade with another 8gb of ram based on 1066/1333Mhz to give you 16gb.

Purchase a larger external hard drive if needed.

Good luck, hope it helps you.

Just a quick follow up that I installed extra 8GB RAM and it solved the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
