Video running too fast and out of sync with audio

sjmackinder wrote on 7/31/2022, 1:14 PM

I am using Magix ProX14 and have created a video file after 2 days of editing. I was having problems with some of the content having serious audio video slippage. Finally managed to create a full 1920x1080P50 file 6.5GB with no issues. Now trying to reduce the video size to send to a client for assessment using the HD file. Whenever I export this now it creates a lower quality file but the audio and video is miles out of sync and everything is far too fast, anyone any ideas please? I have never had this issue before until now.

Update, just ran the low res render on my Win8 machine running ProX7 with no issues at all. Translated a 6.5GB file to 650MB both MP4. I even tried resorting to factory default settings on ProX14 and it still ran riot with the final end result.

That is odd and something I have never encountered.

Have you inadvertently either changed the audio sample rate or frame rate when exporting?

Initially I tried to export as a lower res file but this had issue with sections being out of sync although only marginally but noticeable. The only way I could get a fully contiguous file was to export as 1920x1080p50 6.5GB and then all was well. Taking this file I then reloaded the mp4 into ProX14 on a fresh start, this is when the export a second time at low res became ridiculous. The video was so fast on playback and the sync was minutes out not just seconds. Yet ProX7 had no problem with the same file.....?

Hi

We need more information on the source video files and the export settings you are using to create the 1920 x 1080p FullHD video, and the low res video.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the source video clips and the exported Full HD video you are re-importing, and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip to get the data in the correct format.

It would also help if you put your computer specification in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

@sjmackinder

Your "signature" details show you as using VPX13, but your question is about VPX 14 so you do need to "update" it!

As for the comment about the GPU drivers being up to date as it is only 3 months old, unfortunately, it is almost certain that they are not if you have not checked the NVidia web site recently! If you have the GeForce Experience app installed (you really should have it) use it to check whether your drivers are fully up to date. Magix now recommends the use of the Game Ready driver rather than the Studio driver and apparently optimise their software for it since they believe that most users will be using that driver.

The thing is I have never owned VPX13 which is strange as my only other version is VPX7 which still runs on my Win8 Dell. Yes I have been onto the Nvidia WEB site and downloaded up to date drivers. My original version was at 30.0.15.1272. After downloading the latest I now have 31.0.15.1659 so quite a difference. I will have a go at rendering the file again. Thank you for your advice, I will let you know how this works out.

Excellent news on the driver updates!

Do let us know whether this (quite significant) update goes any way towards resolving the issue.

I see the numbers you quote are those shown by Windows Device Manager. Do you have the NVidia GeForce app installed? It automatically checks for updated drivers and notifies the user of their release and offers to download and install them.

I have just re run the edit and the result is the same. During the edit it states that no hardware encoding is being used yet when I ran the full HD compiler this used hardware although using the early Nvidia drivers it was rapid and perfect with no sync issues. I am trying to drop the 6.25GB 1080p50 file down to 768x432 16:9 but encounter the issue.

I have managed to get the compiler to use graphics hardware but the end result is still the same. The audio plays at normal speed but the video is racing ahead getting more and more out of sync throughout. The odd thing is that prior to export the video and audio is in perfect sync in the edit window throughout. It is as though the export compiler is applying a different frame rate to the audio compared to the video...?

Hi Simon.

That just makes it more curious and begs of possible backward compatibility issues. If the file is too low res to begin with, that may be partially the problem or maybe an audio codec change?

We do try not to make unnecessary requests if we don't think something is not relevant.

Hi Simon.

There doesn't seem to be anything amiss with the data on the file.

The only other thing I can think of that has presented some other users in the past with audio problems is the audio settings in Windows.

While it doesn't seem to matter what sampling or bit rate the speaker output is, it is safer to limit all inputs to 24 bit 48kHz.

If that doesn't fix the problem then I personally have no clue as to what to advise next as it should be working.

Ray.

Oh well there is one other solution which is a silly one. Use VPX7 which will will work fine with the file to produce a lower quality render mp4 for client assessment. Definitely a step backwards Magix!

Thanks for the additional information again!

Just for the sake of comparison can you also post the MediaInfo data on the exported (faulty) file?

Also, (I don't think we've asked for this before); can you show a screenshot of the settings of the Export screen you are using to create your lower resolution file?
