Vegas Movie Studio 11 to Movie Studio 2025 - Should I? Gotchas?

ProgressOutlet55 wrote on 4/23/2025, 5:04 PM

Hi All,

I haven't upgraded in forever and Vegas Movie Studio 11 has done me well but think its time for more modern. I know after version 18 Movie Studio is supposedly not a Vegas product and is like rebrand of Magix Movie Edit.

Did any of you make the upgrade? Is it the same / are you happy with it? Or am I better off ponying up for Vegas Pro since the vegas work flow is what I'm use to?

Also can I open my old projects in the new Magix Movie Studio?

Easy answer - try the 30 day trial of both and make your own choice on your own equipment.

No, Magix Movie Studio won't properly open your old projects. It will try to open them but only with the medias basic cuts. They are different products.

I did install a trial last year, but had a project deadline and just used what I was familar with to get it done soon. I never got to testing it before the trial expired. Glad I did a bit more research as its nice to know that it is a different product even if I go with it. Also sucks that it doesn't open past projects well.

Still curious about others opinions as if they like it better it still might be worth it.

Upgrading to Vegas Pro. You can check out the upgrade price on the Magix website. Then you would retain a workflow you are used to with backwards compatibility. Whatever you decide, make sure your current computer meets and preferably exceeds all of the minimum hardware requirements or you may regret buying either.

Remember trial versions often have limitations built in compared to the full product.
