Hi

There is still a lot of information missing about your computer -

Your  computer specification is needed, which version of Windows you have and the make/model of the sound card.

Is the microphone plugged directly into the computers microphone socket or is it USB microphone?

In either case check you have the following is set correctly:-

With the microphone plugged in open Control Panel, Sound and check that the microphone is ready as shown in this image

Also if you try to record from the stereo mixer does the same error occur?

If the above is correct, when you get the record dialog open in Samlitude can you see the options as shown in this image

This is from Music maker as I donot have Samplitude installed but it should be similar.

Come back with all the requested information and the results of checking the above and please let us know if you get it working and how, as this will help future users on the forum.

Hi,

In support of what John requested, you need to understand that "undefined error" is actually a windows error that usually refers to a registry problem.  It is most often reported as "undefined external error".  Even though many of us have a good understanding of the windows registry, and could possibly help you with your problem if you would provide the requested information, this is a Magix user forum.  Your error is a windows error, not a Samplitude Music Studio error.  So please be a little more cooperative and help us help you.

Good Luck

TRY THIS!!!!! here is how i fixed the same issue on my system.

1) Click file & go to - Program Preffrences then go to - System Options.

2) Go to Audio System.

3) Change the driver system to ASIO. Then hit OK. mine works fine with all updates up to date!

What I suspect is happening when this (Undefined External Error) comes up is, there is no audio device available. When you select ASIO in Audio System that will be the audio device it automatically chooses!!! HOW IS IT THAT MAGIX CANT TELL YOU HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? Dear Magix, Can I please get a job with you please?!!? I can help many people not only resolve problems but I can teach them how to utilize many functions in Samplitude! l0l

@greenmonkeybeats,

I hope your answer helped this user.  Your comment was actually a little insulting as no one here actually works for Magix.  We are all users just like you who do our best based on our knowledge and experience.  John has answered likely thousands of questions on this forum and I have answered a paltry few hundred, you have answered 3.  Please be a little more sensitive before you criticize the answers that others post.
