Bought a completely new version of Web designer. I cannot access the contents. get message "no internet connection". Tried suggested solution online which do not make sense. Cannot technical support. Might ask for refund.
What suggested solution online did you try and why does it not make sense? Technical Support is available via this page if you already have a Magic Account.
The error message I get is "Unable to download file ... .Please check your internet connection. My internet connection is fine since I can access anything I like, I can see even the items, e.g. wellness_website.xar or any other object. Both channels are open in control panel.
Have you checked that your antivirus and firewall are not blocking the file download. Which AV and Firewall do you run?

Where, exactly, did you find the solution that you list?
Internet Explorer is required to be able to use certain parts of the program; it does not matter whether you actually use it for web browsing but it must be installed on your computer.
Symantec would have commented. Anyway, I downloaded Web designer itself alright. Internet Explorer is installed, I am using it even when testing my website.
Sadly, this does not work. I will return the package. I have worked with Web Designer Pro and Designer Pro for many years, doing a good website for my Club. I will return the copy. Bought it to escape a yearly update for my Designer Pro which will not update at the end of February. However, I do not really need the contents (although very useful) and will look in time for another web designer package.
