@rraud - Sorry if you're sick of this 😬 but I found this new location (see cap) and found the damned thing again and deleted it and those files in the red zone. Opened SFAS15, seems normal. No UN yet ... just letting it sit ... If I have to re-install, I'll look for that UN.exe.

No problemo,
Have you cold booted the PC and restarted SF? Some files are recreated if they are missing.when SF is launched. I do not know in this case though, or if the files you removed will make a permanent difference.
In my experiments, those files remained when I uninstalled the update notifier w/ Revo, the pop-up notifications were gone though and did not return after two complete shut down cold boot cycles , re-launching SF each time.

Hi

Given the location of the Update Notifier executable, I would suspect that there is/was one in each of the different Sound Forge software you have installed.

@rraud - I think what I did this morning is working - (wen to to C:\Program Files\Common Files\SoundForge and found the .exe and deleted it and two associated files - SF seems to be working fine as I was in it for 3 hours afterward so thanks again for your help.

I don't know if this might be helpful to anyone, and while I'm not recommending that anyone use the "fix" that finally worked for me, I'll post it here anyway.

Some slightly off-topic notes first:

I've been using Sound Forge Audio Studio since back when it was from Sony, and had purchased versions 10 (back in 2017) and 14 (back in 2020) here through Magix. I had stopped my audio file hobby for a while, didn't need to use it until recently and encountered the "static" issue caused by the Magix Low Latency Driver (which made all sound on my system just static) and removing that entry from the Windows registry didn't help, so I uninstalled Sound Forge completely.

Then recently I saw a promotion to upgrade to version 16 at a discount and decided to give it a go. Same problem with as with previous version - installing SFAS 16 made all sounds on my PC just static noise. At the suggestion of Magix support, this time I uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller and used the Advanced scan to delete everything related to it / rebooted / reinstalled version 16 / removed the Magix Low Latency driver from Windows Registry / rebooted, and the static problem went away. I thought "great".

But then... And now more on-topic:

I too was plagued by the "Renew Update Service" nag popup every time opened SFAS 16.

Note - I did not install the updater service - just Audio Studio 16 64-bit and iZotope Ozone 9.

I tried every potential solution mentioned in this thread so far, from Revo Hunter Mode dragged onto the "Renew Update Server" popup (which seemed promising because it deleted AppData\Local\Temp exe file, but ultimately didn't work) to checking for exe in C:\Program Files\Common Files\SoundForge (no exe there, since I did not install the updater feature) , to making sure Options > Preferences > Newsfeed was disabled etc... and nothing worked.

So... I got a little crafty and after making sure I created a Restore Point and registry backup etc I found and deleted this file - C:\Program Files\SOUND FORGE\SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 16.0\Service_rel_u_x64_vc16.exe - and now the "Renew Update Service" nag popup is gone. Finally! :)

And so while I cannot recommend that anyone else do what I did, since I'm not a software developer and I don't know what repercussions it might have on anyone else's system and I wouldn't want to be responsible for any further headaches for anyone - all I can say is that is what finally worked for me. My guess is that the only repercussion might be having to manually check for updates under the Help tab in SF, and that the bug might possibly come back in a future update and I'll just have to delete that file again. YMMV

Cheers and good luck to all,

Dave

Before Sound Forge was simpler and had fewer bugs. I didn't like the direction Sound Forge took. But I wish good luck to Magix.

Hi

Do you have any of the following installed:

Magix Cloud, Magix Connect, Connect, Magix Network Sync - these are names used through the years for Update Notifier.

Thank you so much for the Revo Uninstaller Hunter mode tip. This update notice has been annoying me for a long time. After reading about not installing the updater to begin with I uninstalled and reinstalled Sound Forge Audio Studio 15 but there it was again - the update notifier. The I opened Revo in Hunter mode and used it to kill and delete the updater process and ... it's gone! Thank you so much!

@Pauly13

Hi

When uninstalling a program always use, as a minimum, the uninstaller for the program, this is installed and is available in the Windows, Settings, Apps and Features on Windows 10.

As @rraud recommended, Revo Uninstaller is a better option.

. . . . no reference whatsoever to UpdateNotifier anywhere to be found . . . .

In Apps and Features you may not find 'Update Notifier', over the years it has gone by several different names: Network Sync, Connect, Magix Connect, Update Notifier and Magix Cloud Import.

If any of these are there uninstall them, using the uninstaller, if not using Revo, click the app entry to get the option to uninstall.

HTH

The Windows 11 Programs & Features (P&F) worked fine. One thing I noticed was that Publisher was in fact Magix. Therefore, it would have been quicker to sort P&F and I would have found Update Notifier quicker.

Thanks, and a tip of the hat to John Baker (assuming that the e is his middle initial).
