There is no template available for this format / Can't save MP3

So after fighting with SF Audio Studio 17 for over two hours to export as a MP3, I learned a few things that will help you.

1st is that Audio Studio is the most worthless program ever. The developers clearly put a lot of work into the program and created a lot of cool features yet missed the most important element of any production software. That is the ability to export your work in a common usable format. After spending hours editing a podcast episode then another 2 hours trying to export it to a MP3, I learned that Audio Studio 17 and previous editions, lack to the ability to export any project with more than two channels to MP3 format. This is absurd, especially for a dedicated audio production software. I produce multiple podcasts and have found that Movie Edit Pro does a better job of creating podcasts than AS17. Not only is it easier to use, but it a wide array of audio tools, can handle several audio tracks, and actually export your podcast or other audio project to MP3, without any issues. Which is sad that Magix's video software does better audio than their own audio software. As a result, I have found Audio Studio to be completely worthless.

So regarding the "There is no template available for this format" issue that many people have and that Magix has not fixed, here is the solution.

1. Make sure you are only using the first two channels

2. Click on "view" at the top of the screen.

3. Go to "File Properties"

4. Click on "11. Audio Channels" and select "2".

At this point you can export to mp3. However, channels 1 and 2 are in stereo so left and right are different. This can be fixed when exporting by selecting Mono under the Custom options on the Save As screen.

Hopefully this MP3 issue AS17 will get fixed. I really like the program, but not being able to export to MP3 just makes it worthless and just causes me to keep using their video software to do my audio projects.

@Thej68cal The official MP3 standard only supports mono and stereo.

There is a surround extension, but that's something different.

I think you are missing the point of my post. After editing a podcast on AS17, I was unable to simply export it into a MP3, which is one of the most commonly used formats for distributing audio and also required by my podcast hosting service. I could only export to WAV. However, I can take that same WAV and put it into Movie Edit Pro (seeing the different channels) as easily export it to a usable MP3 by doing nothing more than importing then exporting. MEP has no problems doing it and audio production is not even its primary function, unlike AS17.

Overall I am a fan of Magix products and have bought several products over the years from them Including several editions of Audio Studio, MEP, Music Maker, and Web Design Premium. I just feel that AS17, despite is great advanced features, becomes worthless if it cannot produce a usable final product (such as a MP3), when Magix's other products can.

Hi,

I was unable to simply export it into a MP3

I don't understand why not, unless you still mean with more than 2 channels.

I just recorded some audio using SFAS16, File, Save as, selected MP3 from the Save as type dropdown, and saved. I got an MP3 file.

Yes, I mean if you have more than 2 channels. If there are only 2 channels it works fine, but if there are more than 2 channels, you have to use another program to make the MP3.

Hi,

As you were told, the MP3 standard only supports mono and stereo. This is not a problem with SFAS.

You are not getting anything more by using Movie Edit Pro and exporting to MP3.

Hi

. . . . I mean if you have more than 2 channels. . . .

Do you actually mean more than 2 channels ie Front left, Front right, Rear Left, Rear right in otherwords Surround Sound ?

Or

Multiple audio streams eg 3 audio 'tracks' for different selectable languages, or in a gaming capture, the audio (in stereo) from the game + a second audio stream (mono or stereo) from a microphone?

MEP, and Magix Movie Studio (rebranded MEP) do not support multiple channel ie Surround sound, due to Dolby licencing restrictions, any more. IIRC the export capability was removed from all versions.
