SPEED video effect not working properly with key frames

steven-satterfield wrote on 3/11/2024, 2:56 PM

I am using Movie Studio 2024 Platinum. Having used Magix video software for many years I recently upgraded to Movie Studio 2024. I am finding that there are issues in trying to use the SPEED video effect with key frames as the key frames are not accessible (won't highlight and won't work). I tried to get help from Magix support and though they were kind, they were unable to help me and even they were trying to figure out a work around to get SPEED key frames to function properly. Anyone else finding the same issue, or are you finding key frames to function fine on your Movie Studio 2024? I am using windows 10 Pro, i9 intel chip. (I was trying to do a speed ramp starting at 30 fps and then smooth ramping up to 120 fps and then smooth ramping back down to 30 fps in a clip. This has worked fine in my prior MEP 2021 software on the same computer.)

Hi,

In the keyframe area, make sure that you click on the Speed box to give it focus.

Hi

There is an intermittent bug with the Speed control keyframes not becoming available.

The workaround to activate them is to move the Speed slider slightly or change the value circled in the image below to 1.01, you can then keyframe the speed of the video.

. . . . I tried to get help from Magix support . . . .

@johnebaker,

You are a life saver! I couldn't figure out how to "turn on" the Speed keyframes until I watched your video. I never noticed this bug before since I usually have more than one effect on a clip and would naturally click on each effect in the keyframe area to give them focus. For some reason, if Speed is only selected, and you change the speed by changing its value or moving the slider, the effect isn't automatically focused (turns blue) and you still have to manually select it (as in your video). The OP refers to MMS2024 but the bug also exists in VPX16 which I am using so I'll assume its still in MMS2025.

Sounds like Camera-Zoomshot; it's keyframes won't activate until you click on SPR first. That wasn't necessary in versions before the new combined SPR.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
