Slightly OT, but NeatVideo now updated, with specific Magix version

emmrecs wrote on 5/30/2015, 4:41 AM

I know browj2 (John) has used/uses NeatVideo for removing noise artifacts from video footage and I'm pretty sure there are other users of Magix video products who do the same, so I'm posting here to draw attention to the fact that NV has been updated to version 4.  Whereas, before in order to use this in VPX or MEP one had to download and install the VirtualDub version, there is now a "dedicated" Magix version.  Details/download are here: http://www.neatvideo.com/download.html  It is a paid-for (reduced price) update for existing registered users but does seem, on initial testing, to be quite an improvement, even on my 32 bit system, so still running VPX5.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the information. I'll try it when I return from this trip in a couple of weeks.

I'm hoping for a speed up in rendering. I recall that there was a way to see what the speed would be in the settings. Did you look at this part?

Thanks again,

Hi John.  Not really explored all the settings yet, but there is the facility to test the operational speed of NV on specific footage on your own machine and so what is the best combination of CPU and GPU.

Hope you enjoy the trip!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I'm finally back home after two trips, and slowly getting back into my videos. My wife and yard work take precedence, of course.

I installed v4 today and gave it a quick test. I'd forgotten how to use it properly and just did some basic things. The improvement is quick and remarkable. I haven't had time to test much more or fine-tune it. I did a quick comparative test using the New Blue Noise Reducer that came with X7, I believe. There is an improvement but it definitely is not in the same league. Rather than play around with the sharpness in Neat Video, I use Pixelan SmartSharpen Pro, which brought back more detail without bringing back any noise. Nice.

I really do like the convenience of the plugin and being able to simply turn off and on the effect on an object.

I'll let you know when I get around to exporting something. It may be a while.

Anything new on your side?

Up to version 4.1.3 now as of February 2016...this plug in has been extremely useful when I am capturing VHS tapes and want to reduce the noise in the image...

Hi Michael,

Thanks for pointing out the latest patch. I'm updating now.

I use it a lot for both the VHS and video shot in low light. Neat Video does wonders with these.
