@Rabbitgum

Hi

My method would be to use an FTP program eg FileZilla and the follow sequence to ensure integrity and minimal down time.

  1. Backup ie copy the old site to a new folder, eg old on the web server

  2. Create a new folder eg 'new' on the web server.

  3. Upload the new site to that folder, from Designer Pro or use FTP program.

  4. Test the new site both on PC browsers and mobile devices using the URL www.mysite_address/new/

  5. If all is OK, delete the old site manually using a FTP program

  6. Transfer new site from the 'new' folder to where the old site was located.

  7. Backup the old site to your PC and then delete it from the web server

I appreciate the information. I do use FileZilla extensively. Do you know if Designer Pro is designed to delete the old site files though?

Hi

. . . . Do you know if Designer Pro is designed to delete the old site files though . . . .

AFAIK Web Designer can only replace what it knows exists automatically, ie if the old site was created in another program then it cannot 'delete' the old version.

Web Designer does have the capability of Exploring the webspace, just as you would with FileZilla.

Website Properties > Publish tabbed section, Other host (FTP) and click Explore Web Space, note your site ftp details are required for this. You will get a standard explorer/ftp style window showing all the files that are currently on the server.

In both cases you still have to delete the site manually.
