Hi

Try running the program in Administrator mode - right click the shortcut and select Properties, Compatibility tab, Run this program as an administrator then OK.

If that does not work and you are using Windows Defender as you antivirus program then try:

  1. Open Windows Security, and click on Virus & threat protection
  2. Click Manage ransomware protection link under the Ransomware protection section
  3. Turn off Controlled folder access .
  4. Click on Yes if prompted to approve.
  5. Close Windows Defender and run the program.

You can turn the Protected folder option on again if you wish, in my experience it is more of a pain then help.

Hi,

It seems that this may be a Xara/Magix problem. Other have noted the same problem on the Xara TalkGraphics forum.

https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?82967-Web-Designer-16-Renew-Update-Service

You may want to open a ticket with Magix and point them to the threads. Their solution to reinstall is not a solution at all.

Well, I already run program as administrator and have already told the virus control folder to give access, so there should be no issues, but I still get it, looks like it just does not want to install....also I have to upgrade my service in like 2 days and I am worried it won’t work. I did go to talkgraphics and us many are talking about it there.

sams3d wrote on 2/9/2020, 7:01 AM

I just put in a support ticket, hope to fix soon before my upgrade expires.

@Erik-Skogstad

I have had this pop up, installed it and it never came back. But I have Xara DPX, not Web Designer. It may be a problem with WD only if it keeps coming back after accepting it. Raise a ticket.

Thanks John - It just started some weeks ago. Have checked the Roaming>UpdateService folder to rename the UpdateService.ini. Didn't work. It seems that every start of Web Designer UpdateService.ini is renewed. Will believe that there is a module in Designer starting ab. 10 secs after Designer is loaded.

My version is Xara Web Designer Premium 16.3.0.57723  DL x64 Oct 25 2019.

It seems that I'm not alone having this popup. I might raise a ticket.

FYI

Hi John - made some digging and found the app. Very good hidden.
  <C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\MAGIX\UPS\2698B13D-9465-46C6-BE69-3CF9C347A21E\Update_Service_5.7.31.74.exe>

Note : the last sub folder change Id every new date/time you enter the Designer.

Prepared Bitdefender to accept the last folder in case of changes in Registry.

Ran twice - as Normal and as Administrator. Both sessions ended up with this :

I think the next step is to send a ticket.

Hi Again, I did the same thing, tried to run .exe from AppData\Local\Temp....and found 3 folders with the .exe Update Service, same version and I got the same pop up message and nothing happened. Funny thing though that is not my version of WebDesigner, I have this: Xara Web Designer Premium 16.3.0.57723  DL x64 Oct 25 2019

Hi all - received answer from Xara concerning the above msgs.

Update the Service app. This is the link to download the fix :

Xara's installation guide :

"Unzip the compressed folder to get the files we need.

On your computer navigate to Web Designer Premium (typically stored on your C: drive) version 16. Open the program files and insert the 3 unzipped Service files.

Reboot your computer and start your Web Designer Premium again."

NOTE : My installation is accordingly except that the FIX claims access to 7 DLL-files which is stored in a different folder one level deeper - in USB sub folder. You have to check this !

Qt5WinExtrasMx64Qt57.dll, Qt5WidgetsMx64Qt57.dll, Qt5WebEngineWidgetsMx64Qt57.dll, Qt5WebChannelMx64Qt57.dll, Qt5NetworkMx64Qt57.dll, Qt5GuiMx64Qt57.dll, Qt5CoreMx64Qt57.dll

I copied the 3 files to the same folder and started <Service_rel_u_x64_vc12.exe> directly.

Havn't seen any pop up since then.

I was sent 3 files about a week ago, they told me to put the files in my temp folder for Magix? That did not work, however I just tried your way and put them in the program files USB folder and tried to run the exe, but nothing happened, however I rebooted started Web Designer and no pop ups....so I hope this holds. Thanks....they must have sent me the wrong files cause they do not match yours.

Hi, I have been having this same problem for a few weeks now (possibly from when I carried out a system restore for an unrelated problem I was having) and have just came across this page.

Having read through all the posts and scrutinised the details in this one by Erik-Skogstad, I subsequently noticed that the three files in the downloaded zip file already exist with the same filenames in the location Windows (C:) > Program Files > Xara > Xara Web Designer Premium > 16 > UPS folder but of a slightly different size, and in my case two of these were dated October 25th and one September 10th 2019.

I decided to copy these three existing files into another location for safekeeping, just in case I wanted to restore them back to the UPS folder, and then overwrote the three in the UPS folder with the three newer ones from the zip file.

I then restarted the Xara Web Designer Program (no reboot was necessary) and I am no longer getting the pop-up message. Everything seems to be working OK as well....so far. 👍

My apologies but this was the topic I was looking for answers in. I first read ALL the posts, then saw the share link to the supposed solution, then tried the link and it was expired. I thought I was letting everyone know in the previous posts that the share link was Expired. I did not realize I was hijacking anything. I was trying to help. It seems rare as I read on. Again, pardon my ignorance. And I meant the solution seems rare!
