Quick Loading Projects

Wesley-Houser wrote on 2/25/2023, 8:19 AM

I have a folder that I use to store the projects that I'm working on, and I want to make it easy to just double click on the project file and automatically open it in magix.

When I try to do that it opens up magix music maker, but it doesn't automatically open up the project file in the software. It starts me off with a new project and I have to load the project file manually.

Is there a way to fix this so that when I double click on the project in my folder it will automatically open up magix music maker and load the correct project?

@Wesley-Houser

I tried it here (v31.x.x.35, Premium), and it did load the project. The project took about a minute to load after MusicMaker had opened (my files are stored on a NAS, so that may be why the delay).

One thought:  maybe there's a difference between Free and Premium?  Are you using Premium?  If yes, you might want to contact Support.

Hi

. . . . When I try to do that it opens up magix music maker, but it doesn't automatically open up the project file in the software. It starts me off with a new project and I have to load the project file manually. . . .

The program version is not relevant - this is a Windows function, not the program, it sounds like Windows is not passing the required 'handle' of the file to the program.

This could be a timing issue 'race condition' which can occur, ie the program has not finished loading before it tries to load a project/file.

What is your computer specification see this topic for what is required and please quoute the processor and graphics card(s) make and model in full.

Yup, I screwed that up, didn't I.  I'm not sure you're wanting my computer's specs, but for completeness: it's a Lenovo Tiny, with i5-7500t, Intel HD630 Graphics, 16GB ram, Win10, plus Behringer UCA222 usb soundcard, using Magix ASIO.

Addendum: I tried loading a MusicMaker project from a local (ssd) drive. . . the project appeared to begin loading a few (5?) seconds after MM had started.

That could be as from the local drive the time is more realistic, is your NAS box:

  • On a 1gb/100Mb LAN connection direct to the PC or going through a router?

  • Has HDD or SSD drives, how many and which RAID configuration, or is it JBOD

  • Are the drives/NAS box network connection going to sleep after a period of inactivity?

I have premium and it's up to date because i just installed it on a new system. The system is running windows 11 and it has a 1gb connection that goes through a t-link 1gb router, but I don't have a NAS or anything like that.

the laptop I'm using is an ASUS A15 Laptop with 64gb of RAM, Nvidia 3050-ti, AMD Ryzen 7 6800H - 3.20 GHZ, with just one WD Green SN350 2 TB Solid State Drive.

My conection does not go in and out repeatedly it is stable I run my connection wired directly to the router which is run from the modem the connection is fiber optic.

Its not a huge deal, but I wanted to be more productive and it would be easier to just double click on a project if i need to open it rather than load it from the program. Its not big but it would help me be efficient and productive.

In your case the network speed is not relevant because you are working locally, the question was aimed at @gjonny who is using a NAS box.

Right on that's cool. I'm still the OP though so don't forget about me. I was just confused as to who you were talking to.

Wesley-Houser wrote on 2/27/2023, 6:43 PM

gjohnny didnt actually have a question he was just telling me that it worked on his end but nothing that really moves me forward on my problem

Wesley-Houser wrote on 2/27/2023, 6:44 PM

Then he listed his specs because he was confused.

Wesley-Houser wrote on 2/27/2023, 6:47 PM

To repeat the issue. I would like to get my system to automatically open the correct project when I double click on the project in my windows folder. Right now it loads the Magix program but that is all it does not load the actual composition of the track. It makes me load it myself. I like the program. I just want to try to speed it up for efficiency and productivity. I just want it to work as designed.

Hi, this is going off-track from the original issue, and seems to have caused some confusion, so I've started a new thread "Project Loading Times":

Hi

. . . . so don't forget about me . . . .

I haven't, I have been trying to replicate the issue on both my PC and laptop and have failed miserably to get a failure to load the project.

The lack of users reporting the same problem suggests this is more likely an obscure issue with Windows' handling of the project file.

Does double clicking work with other programs eg does a video file open in Films & TV or audio file open in player?

You can rasie a Support ticket on this issue - link is at the top of the page - select Music Maker and the scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Contact Support then follow through the dialogs.

Hi,

There is nothing quick about loading Music Maker, at least for me.

On my laptop, it takes longer to load a project by double-clicking than to load Music Maker and select the project from the list. If the project is not on the list, clicking on Open opens Windows Explorer to my Projects folder and I can load from there. This takes the same time as double-clicking on the project but less time if I first have to load Windows Explorer and navigate to the Projects folder.

As I indicated in the thread opened by @gjonny, double-clicking on a project from Windows Explorer took about 35s to load Music Maker and another 12-15 seconds to get the project. During this last period, the Arranger has no objects on it and one could think that the project didn't or wouldn't load, it did.

When you double-clicked on the project, did you wait at least 30s after Music Maker opened to see if the project loaded? If not, try it.

Hi,

I just tested this on my desktop and starting by double-clicking on the project took 23s to load Music Maker to the Arranger, and the project was finally loaded at 70s.

Starting Music Maker normally took 19s and quickly selecting the project from the list on the Welcome screen immediately opened the project on the Arranger - total time 22s.

I can see no advantage to double-clicking on the project file to MM and the project.

Again and given my experience, did you wait long enough for the project to load?
