ProX 14 Crashes when Loading Any File Except AVI

Rowland-Fogarty wrote on 7/18/2022, 3:27 PM

I just upgraded from Video ProX 13 to Video ProX 14. ProX 13 was running flawlessly.

My Magix Video ProX 14 is Version 20.0.1.159 (UDP3), UG Code 8471 KA1

When loading an MPG, MP4, or any other format file other than AVI onto the timeline, ProX 14 crashes and tells me there is a fatal error and shows this error message.

It then forces a shut down of the program. I've tried to find a path to Magix Technical support to explain this problem and find a solution but the links keeping taking me in circles to canned suggestions that do not address my problem. Should I simply uninstall Video ProX 14 and reinstall it? Any help with this issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

@Rowland-Fogarty

Hi

Crashes with the error you are receiving are usually caused by the GPU drivers.

Are the WX 2100 drivers up to date?

If not update them to the latest version.

In the Program settings, Device options tab you may need to change the Import, Processing and Export options to find the best performance or be able to import the, starting with all 3 options set to the WX 2100.

If the import still fails try changing the Import option to CPU to see if the import succeeds. If you get other issues with preview and export try changing the Processing and Export options.

Re-installing, unless done correctly, may make the issue worse, at this point it is not an option to take -it is a last resort.

Thank you, John, for the information. My apologies for not replying sooner, been out of state helping family. I upgraded the drivers for the card when I got home which solved the problems with loading MP4 files. MPG's still bombed. Found a utility that would allow me to convert the MPG files to MP4 and now all is well. Thanks again.

Hi

Thanks for the feedback.

That is odd behaviour from he MPG files!

Do you have any of the 'All-in-one' codec packs installed eg KLite - if so, they are not necessary and should be removed as they can cause issues with the program.

I didn't find the Klite codec listed in the Control Panel Program listing, and I wasn't able to find a selection in Magix that would show all the codecs that are installed on my machine. I do have the effects FXHome, New Blue, and a couple of other effects programs installed that were offered with the Magix package. When I look at the Windows error window I posted above that pops up when the program crashes it seems that it may be some sort of conflict with an mpg2.dll routine. I wonder if I should uninstall all the effects packages and the add-ons and see how Magix behaves without all the extra programs attached to it?

@Rowland-Fogarty

Hi.

A missing dynamic library link would only affect an effect if the dll was missing from the effects package in question. The core program may be missing or have a corrupt dll in which case all trace of the program should be deleted and loaded again. A normal Windows uninstall may not achieve that and you may have to hunt down wayward files and folders. Try exporting one file with no effects to to see if it exports first though.

Ray.

@Rowland-Fogarty I read this last night & i'm pretty sure your post said you'd install all codecs from i think it said Klite codec pack, have you changed the orig post, because i was going to ask why had you installed them?

@Former user

. . . . I read this last night & i'm pretty sure your post said you'd install all codecs from i think it said Klite codec pack, have you changed the orig post . . .

The original post was a changed to add more information - there was no mention of installing the K-Lite codec pack.

@Rowland-Fogarty

. . . . I should uninstall all the effects packages and the add-ons and see how Magix behaves without all the extra programs attached to it? . . . .

This most likely would not help with the crashing which is occurring on import.

If you are happy with converting the MPG files to MP4 and, of all the file formats you import, they are relatively small in number, then I would suggest you continue with that option, changing program settings to try to fix the issue for mpg files may result in a loss of performance for other file formats.

@johnebaker Sorry my mistake, i was getting mixed up with a Vegas post 🤦‍♂️🧐👴😂🤦‍♂️🙃

Rowland-Fogarty wrote on 8/24/2022, 1:21 PM

I agree, John. These are mostly older files off my wife's old cell phone phone that she wanted me to try and save and they are few in number. I'm not really sure how they got there in that format. I'm thinking they may have been something that someone sent her as they are old videos of our friend's children when they were very young. Basically, doing the MPG conversion to MP4 is working for me so I'm not going to try and fix what isn't "broke", so to speak. I'm at the foot of the learning curve with Magix so I need to forge ahead with my use of the program so I can get up to speed with it's operation.

@Rowland-Fogarty 😂

There's a tool called MediaInfo, download it, it's quick & free https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
After downloading, right click on the media in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the View option, select all, copy & paste in a comment here, it'd be interesting to see why the old files from your wife's old cell phone phone

like this 👍

You could maybe share a sample video on Google Drive, it needs to be one of the orig unedited file straight from the phone, - Open Google, top right there's a square of dots - Google Drive, drag the file on that window, once it's uploaded right click - Share, there's an option at the bottom of the pop-up window to - Share with anyone who has this link, Copy, then on here use the chain button at the top of a new comment to share that link,
