Program crash and Error after error after error and so on

Irving-Hultengren wrote on 2/4/2022, 2:41 PM

I hope I am the only person who despite love working with Photostory Deluxe that has become so frustrated with constant program crashes that I have now given up this software. Even a complete new clean installation 21.0.1.74 results in a simple message box with a yellow trinagle when trying to export to my pc. Since November 2021 I have never been able to use this PAID FOR program.

Software; Photostory Deluxe version 21.0.1.74 (also run and crashed with newer version 105)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We need more information:

  1. Computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

  2. A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab.

  3. If you are using video clips in the project, download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the video clips and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip.

  4. The amount of free space on the hard drive(s) you have.

  5. Export preset your are using

  6. Was there any message in error dialog that popped up when the crash occurred, if so what was the message?

Hi John,

Thanks for reverting.

I have added my complete computer specification in my profile signature as requested. I have attached 5 screen shots of Device Options, Paths (which shows hard drive F for filing location), export failure (simple yellow warning triangle when pressing EXPORT) -nothing is exported, Hard drive (F) specification showing ample filing space available, and the Error Message Box when exiting the program. The screen shots also evidences two simple JPG images as the entire project contents -no video clips.

This is a completely clean installation with any and all previous MAGIX related files and directories pre-deleted to avoid any contamination. The puzzling part is that it has worked beautifully before with all the same settings and computer. Then, out of the blue it crashes as evidenced. It even worked flawlessly previously on same computer under Windows 10. I have no clue what suddenly makes the program crash as I have altered nothing to the best of my knowledge.

Hi

Unfortunately the images are not available - there appears to be an issue with the Magix media server.

However as you have been having this problem since Nov 2021 and your computer specs are fine, there are several possible causes of the issue you are having the 2 most likely are:

  1. the Antivirus/Firewall Real time protection/Folder protection/Ransomware feature(s) is (are) blocking the program accessing the destination folder for the export - try temporarily turning off these features and export again. If that works then you can add an exception for the program to be able to access the destination folder, how you do this depends on the antivirus program.

  2. A change in media type eg from a new camera or mobile device.

Hi

. . . . The solutions you are suggesting are too complicated, can you call. . . . .

Unfortunately not, I would also advise you not to give remote access to your computer to any one.

Which Antivirus program are you using on the PC?

Hi John,

Apparently you have resolved the problem with your media server, so here are the screen shots that you asked for. Temporarily shutting off virus, ransomware, folder etc etc was complex but alas yielded the same result.

So I guess we are back to the fact that there is likely something somewhere within PSD that causes the crash. I hope the images attached can shed light on this and identify the issue. In any and all case, a professional program should in my opinion be more robust that just throwing a message box with a triangle and no message. They will always inform of the type of error (file not found, export directory does not exist, or whatever). In the latter case other programs will then automatically default to e.g., the standard documents folder. Word, Excel, Dreamweaver, PSP are examples hereof.

I look forward to your solution.

Kind regards, Irving

Hello, Welcome

Have a look at this thread here to see if it helps with the Qt5CoreMx64Qt5.15 error.

Hi Patient-X,

Thanks a lot for assisting. Tweaking the advanced tab to "software" on Export dialog actually made PSD export my project. It even did that as an ".mp4" extension and not the capitalized ".MP4" extension I always get when using the standard export button top right. Unfortunately, the choice reverts to GPU every time PSD is reloaded. Is there any way to have it remain at the "software" choice?

Deleting "ShopManager" unfortunately does not work as I still get the error at exit. I also still get the subsequent Windows related dialog box that states that MAGIX has crashed and sending info to Microsoft. Likewise, I am still asked to send a crash log to MAGIX every time I re-open PSD.

I'd love to stay with PSD after investing time in learning the somewhat cumbersome and outdated GUI, but at age 73 I cannot afford to lose too much time on a program that does not deliver as it should.

Hopefully John has some good ideas after I sent him the screen shots?

Best regards, Irving
