Problems with mpeg4 mp4 files?

Just purchased movie maker pro 14 plus and had lots of trouble with mpeg mp4 files, screen kept freezing and error came up magix movie edit stopped working. I have managed to fix this by adding a media converter and changing all mpeg files to avi files. If anyone else has had these problems I hope this helps.

I cant seem to import MP4 files with 'movie edit pro 14 plus'. These files are named as SVD when I download them off my camera, which are also MP4 think. Its a samsung VP-MX20, any ideas?
