Problem when dragging mpg files onto track

amph wrote on 3/23/2012, 3:14 AM

Hi,

I've Video Deluxe 17 running on Win7 and latest hardware.

When I drag & drop (import) mpg files onto a track the sequence often gets corrupted. For examble I import a mpg of 50 seconds onto a track. On the same sequence on the track I get a black frame after 40 seconds and then repetitive frames until the end! The original mpg file is still ok.. Audio is ok.

I thought it must have something to do with my computer so I installed it on a brand new system (8 GB Ram and Core i5) but to no avail. I also stopped all unnecessary services (Anti-Virus, Firewall etc) but this did not help either.

What could the problem be?

Hi

Use GSpot or MediaInfo  to analyse the files and comeback with the video and audio settings it gives you and also the source of the files eg video camera (make & model) etc.

Also check that you have the setting shown in the image checked

Hi John,

Thanks a lot for your answer and sorry it took so long to get back - I had some days offline. I added the suggested setting but it did not solve the problem.  The files I want to import are MPEG2 files and GSpot tells me that codecs are installed. The camera is a Sony handycam DCR-SR68.

As a workaraount I imported the sequence into MS Movie Maker and cut it there and then imported it in a *.wmv format into my film. It worked but it's not really what I want.

I hope this helps you.

Regards,

Anthony

Hi Anthony

Sorry for taking so long to reply - I just got the notification that you had replied.

I had a different model Sony HDR camcorder and had a problem with black frames at the end of each clip with MEP 15 and 16 but always the full clip was imported (and still does with 17 and MX).  The setting I gave you stopped this happening.

Having the problem with both MEP 17 and MEP MX (18) would suggest that the problem still lies with the codecs.

Do you have any of the all in one codec packs eg KLite etc installed or other video editting software?

Have you installed the software that came with the camera if not try installing it.

John

Hi John,

Thanks again for your support!

"Having the problem with both MEP 17 and MEP MX (18) would suggest that the problem still lies with the codecs."

I've been thinking about this but I believe that the codecs are not the problem because:

- I can watch the very same mp4-sequences on my pc with windows media player without any problems

- with codecs I thought that it either works or it doesn't but it would never do what it does to me.

It's probably not a hardware issue as I got the same problem on different computers.

I believe that Magix generally has a problem with mp4 sequences from my camera as weird as this may sound. I have imported *.mp4 from the internet and it worked... How can a mp4 file differ if it has been recorded from another camera?

What do you think?

Thanks

Anthony
