Im pretty new to this music making thing, just trying it out for fun. Im good on the keys so I figured I'd put it to some use.

Im wondering if there are any specific steps I have to take after plugging in the keyboard. Because I also have a USB microphone and I plugged it into the computer and it works perfectly fine.

Keyboard=Spectrum ail-499

Please help, thanks :)

Thank you for telling us which version of MMM and keyboard you are using!

Well, I skimmed over the Spectrum AIL-499 manual.  It's not all that helpful, and it was obviously written by someone who's first language is NOT English.

So, since you hear nothing at all, I have to assume the Spectrum's internal voices are silenced when the USB cord is connected.  The USB cable does NOT transmit any sound!  It transmits only (digital) MIDI information between the keyboard and computer.

The big question is...what are you trying to do?  Do you want to record the voices of the Spectrum (audio) to your computer?  Do you want to use the Spectrum as a MIDI controller to play and record virtual instruments on the computer?

To record audio (internal voices) from the Spectrum, you will need an audio adapter cable to connect the stereo audio outputs on the Spectrum to the Line IN (blue) jack on your computer's sound card or to an audio interface (if you have one).  (You may have to unplug the USB cable.)

To use the Spectrum as a MIDI controller, leave the USB cable connected.  Go to the "Sounds" icon in Window control panel and set the Spectrum (not the microphone) as the "Recording Input Device".  You should also check the Audio/MIDI tab in the MMM program settings ('Y' key) as well.  This will allow you to use the Spectrum to play the virtual instruments in Vita (or any other VSTi plug-in you might have installed).

If you've done this and you're still having problems, just let us know.  Good luck!

BTW....The Spectrum is an "electronic" keyboard.  The term "electric piano" (EP) is typically reserved for electro-mechanical pianos, such as the (Fender) Rhodes EP, the Wurlitzer series of EP's  (i.e. 200, 200a, etc.), the Hohner Clavinet or any similar piano.  I just thought you'd like to know.
