Although when I start using PIP in quarter page (4 photos) lay out they always used to abut each other. One of my movies that I am building has changed the layout to have a black band centrally as if wanting, text to be placed in that area. Whilst I do use text none of my previous MVP have this fault. What have I accidently done to cause this, I am rebuilding a new copy and it does not have this fault in it. All my PIP layouts using 4/3 layout as my favourite normally work correctly. I would prefer to solve problem due to amount of time spent rather than just renew a copy and not find out what the fault was.

@Donald-Milburn Hi, can you share a full screen capture using the arrow next to the smiley at the top of a new comment, , what is the project size & what size are the photos you're adding?

@Donald-Milburn

Hi

In addition to @Former user comment, we need more information on your computer as this could be a program setting issue.

We need, Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) your are working with if this is a laptop.  See my Signature for an example.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Display options or Device options tab  would help.

In VPX (and MEP) under the PiP templates, there are 3 different series for 4 images. Each will give you a different outcome. They are identified as 4/1 ..., 4/2... and 4/3. You are probably using the wrong one. Try the 4/3 series.

Also, these are dependent on the aspect ratio of the objects. If you use a video clip at 16:9 for one of the clips and a photo at 4:3, the photo will have some black around it.

Point to note only one of my MVP,s has this fault so it is not the programme, the windows or graphics card but an instruction in the project folder that is causing this. I have been through entire MVP PIP settings so that they are reset at 4/3 ratio but they still are separated by a black band. All video and photos are pre-cropped for 16/9 wide screen. As mentioned previously it is only one of my MVP,s that has this fault.

johnebaker wrote on 8/18/2022, 6:32 AM

@Donald-Milburn

Hi

This could be a non fatal corruption of the MVP file.

Try the following:

Load the MVP file then:

  1. Select File, Manage project, Export Movie file, Magix movie file (*.mvd) and save the file

  2. Restart Video Pro X and create a new project and delete the empty Timeline

  3. Select File, Manage project, Import Movie file, Magix movie file (*.mvd) and load the MVD file saved in step 1.

  4. Check the PiP - if OK, save the project with a new name.

Hi Donald.

Excuse my ignorance but aren't

All video and photos are pre-cropped for 16/9 wide screen

and

I have been through entire MVP PIP settings so that they are reset at 4/3 ratio

Conflicting settings?

Surely the PIP settings should mirror the screen ratio.

@Donald-Milburn Hi, it's a bit of a guessing game at the moment, all we know is you have a project with a black band across it when you add 'photos are pre-cropped for 16/9 wide screen' ?

Wide screen?, there are many options for wide screen but 16:9 isn't normally classed as one of them?

this is 16:9 & 21:9 (wide screen) on a 16:9 project

this is 16:9 & 21:9 (wide screen) on a 21:9 project

Without more details it's hard to know what might be going on with your project,

Donald-Milburn wrote on 8/18/2022, 8:54 AM

As you can see in these first two screen shots the error found when loading my original mvp. I have tried the suggestion of saving as an MVD file but that reloaded the same as the MVP the second set is from my restarted MVP which does not develop the same fault. You will note however that the review screen in the new MVP the PIP selection all abut each other and full screen is larger. Regarding my references to 16/9 format all my files have been pre-cropped before I start editing, both screen shots are using the same original files into the Magix Video Pro X version 17.0.3.68 (UDP3) UG code 8447KA3 in its base programme. There is obviously not a fault in the base programme. How can I check the movie settings of a running MVP programme and be able to reset as what I can see are two differing wide screen formats.

Hi,

Select one of those images, Ctrl+E to open properties, select Image and show us a screen shot. Is the Ratio 16:9 or something else? What is the resolution?

I'm betting that your images are not 16:9.

Although I have been making movies for over 16 years this is the first time I have had a file change format on me but seeing the checks that you have implemented if the incorrect formats are added to the project, it seems one little error can screw up a project. After a bit of searching to locate via file and project settings I found that my misbehaving project instead of being on a 16/9 1820x1080 25 fps pal set up had mysteriously got to be on 4/3 720x526 layout. I have corrected the error and rest all the PIP back to their correct positions and the system is now operating correctly. It would have been nice if an entry was liable to drastically change a started project a red warning was used most of your warnings are only one colour. Thanks for all the help. Why do you have 44 film settings. see screen shot.

Hi,

Aha - user error, as I suspected. Glad it's sorted out.

Look at the list. You use the setting that you want for the project that matches the intended export settings. I use NTSC - 29.97fps, you use PAL 25fps - definitely not the same settings. I usually use 1920x1080, others use 4K, etc. The timeline and project gets set up for all of the parameters. How else would the program know what you want to do?

Hi cube ace thanks for replies, all were useful, after spending 12 years using Serif Movie plus 5 and 6 (which is no longer supported by Serif) the closest I found is the Magix Video pro X. The serif system asked if you wanted to change an item to the first film set up like 3/4 to 16.9 and not as I found out it changed the format from 16.9 to 756x 520 because of the film I added hence my original confusion. I know that if I have any further slip ups I can get a swift response. Thank you all.
