Photostory 2020 19.2.46 keeps restarting after application is closed

KAROL-PAULICKA wrote on 6/6/2020, 5:06 PM

I just installed Photostory 2020. After all downloads and installation it downloaded additional content and offered update to ver 19.2.46 ( downloaded media was .36).

In any case since I first started it I can not stop and close the program in normal way. After each close, Photostory process keeps running in the background and after 30sec to 1 minute it Starts Photosotory again... I can only kill the process to get rid of it... it is getting to my nerves. ( fresh installation 2 days old, tried reset app defaults. Win10 1903, HP HP probook 5310m )

Anyone with the same issue ?

here is app log : ( of course my intention a 23:44 was to shut down program , finish e-mails and turn off computer ) I am sure I am not clicking on desktop icon neither startup.. there is no KBD shortcut or anything I would put in place..

@KAROL-PAULICKA

Welcome to the Magix forums.

The most common reason for the problem you are seeing is that the program is attempting to carry out some kind of internal "housekeeping", "checking", "database creation" etc., at the time, which is interrupted by your choosing to close it.

The only "solution" I can suggest is that, when you want to close the program you first check in Task Manager for whether it is still using any CPU cycles. If it is, leave it open until that usage drops to almost nothing and then close it. (I just checked on my installation of the same version and, having "finished" using it, the CPU usage dropped to 0% and closing was successful and did not prompt a restart.)

@emmrecs thank you, I will check this. It is true that it does not happen all the time. I will try to confirm this. In such case it wouldn't be a bad idea for developer to implement some shutdown hold screen while housekeeping is running.. and shut down completely after... anyhow, thanks for checking this on your side...

Above suggestion is right in a sense that sometimes Photostory does maintenance taks and consumes CPU some time after application was closed.

As per Magix support request I was asked to completely reinstall the product so eventually I reserved couple hours of my time and uninstalled and re-installed. This time I go slower, I performed standard installation and content packages as well as Travel Maps and bonus Plug-ins one by one always testing if there is some adverse effect after adding some module.. I am staying on version 19.0.2.36 and will postpone the update for several day..So far after closing app, no restart problem re-occured.

As per above suggestion : while photostory is making those "maintenance tasks" auto-restart is not happening, rather if I try to start it detects running instance and recommends to wait, which is expected behavior. no problem with that

I have the same problem, I have reinstalled v 19.02.46 with Windows 10 and still have the problem. I also installed v 16.1.1.46 and that version does NOT have the problem. I have viewed Task Manager and waited until CPU usage is 0% and then closing Photostory. It makes no difference as 30 seconds later it reopens again. If I then immediately close it a second time it says closed.
