Photo Manager fails to open, even after uninstall and reinstall

I think the title says it all! I wanted to open my copy of PhotoManager 17 in order to check something to be able to help another poster to the forum, to be confronted with a series of error messages, as below:

I tried the "obvious": re-ran the original installer, chose the option to "Modify"; no change.

I then completely uninstalled, using Revo Uninstaller Pro, ran the installer again, installation went without any apparent hitch, opened the app, to be greeted by the same three error messages again!!

Because i have some 8 Magix programs installed I'm a little reluctant to try the route suggested in this tutorial but that looks very much like having to be my next step. Unless any other user has ideas to try?

As a initial help (I have Photo Manager Deluxe - that works, Reporting Version 13.1.1.12 from Help>About, but installed under D:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Photo Manager Deluxe\17\) I looked for the files that are reported on in your Pictures. They all resides under SysWOW64 Directory in %Windir% (or %SystemRoot%).

DLLIO32.DLL, DLLRES32.DLL and STRING32.DLL

So your problem is related to the program not finding the correct files in its execution environment. This is most likely caused by errors in PATH settings for 32-bit environment or Registration settings in RegEdit for the DLLs.

In System32 Directory I do not find these files, but I find similar named DLLIO64.DLL, DLLRES64.DLL and STRING64.DLL

I found DLLIO32.DLL in Registry here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls

(Not suprised to find DLLIO64.DLL in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs)

Hi Jeff

Running steps 3 - 11 in the tutorial you linked to, did not affect any of my Magix installations - it did fixes some issues I was having.

Have you updated to 1809 yet?

I could not answer @Torben-Jensen because I have no images, with embedded GPS data in them.

Thanks for the information about that procedure not interfering with other Magix programs; I think that is tomorrow's job!

No, I haven't yet updated to 1809, so I can't blame that! Interesting that @shgrude can see those specific .dlls in the folder he named. They aren't there for me. The registry entry is and I've run sfc /scannow and the various dism commands for checking the integrity of the Windows installation and everything has come back as 100% "perfect".

No, I don't have any images with embedded GPS data in them either. I was just intrigued about the suggestion of creating a travel route in PhotoManager; I didn't know it was even possible!

It uses the older Travel Route Animation that is available in MEP and VPX , not the new Magix Travel Maps.

I have just tested it from MEP and I am getting script errors, Google maps API - looks like Goggle have changed something in their API.

Time to reboot I think. 😰

I also tested (realised I do have PMD16 also) and I had no problems creating a small travel-route animation from PMD16. I was not able to provide my home address, but I was able to select my house on the map and create the animation that way.

As for programs, I also have PMD17 (although the help>about reports 13) and manage to install the "new" TravelRoute as come with the Update in December 2018 (just before my Upgrade service ran out).

Hi Jeff,

Did you try the Microsoft uninstaller to make sure that everything, including a patch was uninstalled? Other than that, I can't help. It installed fine here. The latest version of PMD17 is 13.1.1.12.

Did you get new "Magix Travel Maps" with PDM17 as an update, or using something else. I got it with PhotoStory Premium VR as an update. It is a standalone as far as I can tell.

I am getting the scripting error opening TRA with every program that I tested, PMD17, VPX, MEP, PhotoStory Premium VR. Clicking on ok works.

Under Options, Erweitert opens the config file. At one point, we were able to get Google Maps as an option, but it subsequently disappeared. I obtained an api key for Google and put it in the config file, following some instructions on the French forum. I must look this up again.

I suppose we should point out the scripting problem to Magix and ask whatever happened to the Google Maps interface.

My cell phone puts GPS info with the photos, but usually about a half km away. I should try to find out why. The GPS program that I use on the same cell phone is pretty much spot on.

All:

If you have some photos (on the timeline) along a route at different locations (with GPS data), TRA will pick them up a make a route between them. In the image below, it picked up the GPS data from 4 of 6 (2 had no data) photos and made a route between them. The first 2 photos were at the same point. Still my camera GPS was off. The first point is where I took the first photo that has no GPS data, and I thought that TRA was spot on - it wasn't. Again, I must find out why my GPS data is way off.

PMD also has a quick feature that will show GPS location. If there is a location tag showing with the image, right-clicking will have a selection to show GPS location and open Google Maps.

Lastly, "Magix Travel Maps" is quite interesting, but is competing with the new Google Earth Studio, which is quite amazing - 3D views. Check it out.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay in responding.

There have been some developments since my last post. I was able, (many thanks to @johnebaker) to reinstall those missing .dlls and then reinstall PM but still, no joy. Now the error message is

At the moment I have opened a ticket with Magix Support to see if they have any suggestions to offer!

Will try and keep this thread updated.

I got the Magix Travel Maps bundled with an update/patch of PhotoStory Delux (PSD) in December 2018. I have the TRA as part of PhotoManager Delux (PMD). I neither have Traveler nor Premium VR version of PhotoStory.

It looks like PSD got upgraded from version 2018 to 2019 on the December patch.

I did not test with PSD/TM but with PMD/TRA I selected several pictures containing GPS data and opened the TRA from the Edit menu. The pictures (or the GPS) did not got passed to the TRA.
