Hi

. . . . I have a site with password protection on the first page but when logged in as a guest and press "cancel" the whole site is accesible! . . .

That is an expected behaviour - once logged in the browser has a valid session cookie to access the whole site.

The cookie should be deleted when the browser is closed, however depending on the browser and its settings it may be retained until the cookie expires.

What method have you used to set up the password protected parts of the site?

Thanks for your answer - I am not sure that I understand what you mean. I use Chrome as the browser and I do not know where or when I should delete the cookie! Could you please advice me with further details, thanks?

Hi
I no longer use Maker for a long time, but if I remember correctly, we could not fully protect the site, only a few pages.
To fully protect the site, use the Designer software with publication in domain Magix Xara Online.

Hi

@ schorling-hans

There are many different ways to password protect web pages or whole sections of a web site. francois-bellanger is correct in that you need to use Xara Web Designer if you are hosting on Magix Xara Online.

If you are not using Magix Xara Online or Xara Web Designer, then the method to use depends on the web design program you are using and the features your hosting provider supports in way of access and functions of the domain control panel.

Two common methods are individual page protection and using folder protection - in folder protection all web pages that need protecting are in this folder and is easier to implement.

I would suggest you research (Google) the following:

  • Cookies - use, creation and deletion
  • web page password protection
  • Scripting - PHP, Javascript and ASP

If you require individual user accounts and passwords and have many users of the protected pages, then it becomes more complicated.

You may need to move up to web hosting that supports scripting eg PHP or ASP and offers a database eg MySql or SQL Server to be able to manage a large number of users and passwords.

You may also want to consider using a Content Management System such as Joomla, WordPress if the web site is likely to expand significantly.

HTH

Thanks for your feedback - seems that Website maker is outdated and I need to use XARA Web designer.
