Page loading very slowly

Hi! I am fairly new on Xara Webdesign Premium. But I created a site for my business. It's in Swedish with an English page and two versions for phones and tablets too. Great functions. But now after publishing it it seems to lag too much. t takes forever to laod it in the web browser, both on PC and phones and tablets. I guess visitors will get tired and leave before the page shows up and reacts. It is www.leisbornmedia.se

Anything I can do to optimize the site or pages so it will load quicker? Can't find any tips about that in the manual nor in forums.

Thanks!

Martin, Sweden

Hi Martin

I have tested the site homepage and the majority of the home page loads within 2 - 3 seconds.

However, I suspect you have opted for a 'single page' template which downloads the entire site before it displays - if you look at the HTML source code you will see there is over 6560 lines to download.

The majority of the slow down is related to browser spending a long time trying to connect to multiple Youtube videos to get the preview images for the link buttons, delaying completion the home page rendering.

There are also 2 of other issues with the slideshow: -

  1. each of the 4 images has a link associated with it that goes nowhere - are these supposed to link to videos?

  2. the image to located top left in the white panel to the right of the images is broken - it looks like the image URL is http://www.leisbornmedia.se/{Bheading} - however there is no indication in the HTML what this is referring to.

Also the { } symbols are unsafe characters and should not be used in URL's.

Hi and thanks so much for this. I'm greatly thankful for the input since I am not familiar with html code. I bought Magix Xara Webdesign Premium because I need a WYSIWYG program.

I don't know if the template was a single page one. Anyway, is there any way to change that so that is doesn't have to download all content before it displays?

I tried to fix the slideshow links. I actually didn't know it had links. Whatever I did with it crashed the program so I ended up just removing that widget completely, and replaced it with a still image. Let's see if this fixes some things. I would however like to have a widget there to have something move instead of just being a static page.

Where are the unsafe { } symbols characters you mentioned? How do I change those?

About "single page" websites, I guess that is Supersites. I checked and actually it was set as a supersite, with the fancy page transitions. I changed that to conventional website now and it seems quite faster now.

Hi Martin

. . . . About "single page" websites, I guess that is Supersites . . . .

That was the word I was searching for when I said 'single page'.

The site is now loading a lot quicker and I cannot see a reason why you should not add the slide show back again - it added that extra element of visual and live information and the images are small enough to download quickly.

Cheers

Hey, I added a slideshow again, this time another widget which has no links or other mystic things. It still seems to be working fine. I don't know if the animated symbols are a little too much for visitors though. But for now I keep them. Nice to have some animated things on the site.

Thanks again and further input is still appreciated.

Hi Martin

Looks good and is still loading quickly, the animated symbols do not look intrusive or too much to me.
