on load, the welcome screen hangs

Amir-N wrote on 1/9/2024, 8:58 AM

As of a few days ago, launching Magix Movie Studio 2023 (Magix Video Delux Plus) hangs on the welcome screen, and fails to load. It says it is loading some things but nothing happens for a very long time.

I have removed and reinstalled it a couple of times, with no success.

I'm on Windows 11, and it worked fine just a few days ago.

If it helps as a clue: the Windows Movie and TV (Media player) was also hanging, until i had it repaired using windows settings repair option.

@Amir-N

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Please read and follow this tutorial to create and post here the text from the Windows Reliability Monitor. With that additional information we may well be able to offer you suggestions as to how to resolve the problem.

One point to note: you say you have removed and reinstalled it a couple of times. Unfortunately that method very rarely works as the user might hope since the built-in Uninstaller does not remove any files, folders and registry entries which are created when the app runs for the first and subsequent times since that Uninstaller does not know they exist! If it proves necessary to eventually suggest that a total uninstall and reinstall is necessary we will offer you guidance as to how to do this!

Hi Jeff, Thanks for your comment.

I have run Perfmon but there is no crash report. It only says "successful application reconfiguration" on any execution attempt i have made. No crashes.

Hi

. . . . I'm on Windows 11, and it worked fine just a few days ago. . . . .

What changed on the computer between the program working and then not working eg Windows updated, new drivers installed other program installed etc?

When the hang occurs, what is the last item listed, bottom left of the start screen, see image below ?

Most probably windows update (they are automatic), nothing else installed lately.

The last item on the splash screen is "Loading presets for mobile devices"

and that's where it stays forever.

Hi

Check the following:

  1. The following folder below exists and that is contains presets as shown in the image below.

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Program name-edition\Default\Presets\MPEG4-Device

  2. In Windows security, Protection history that the above folder access has not been blocked

All files are there by the same order (Note: the "Documents" folder name is shown as "Public Documents", if i try to create a "documents" folder at the same place is says it already exists, so i assume it's just the way the browser displays the name).

As for security history - it is empty, and the folder properties show full control to all laptop users.

@Amir-N

Hi

. . . .  "Documents" folder name is shown as "Public Documents" . . . .

Folders can have a the real name and a user friendly (display) name.

Download Revo Uninstaller free, if you do not want to install it download the Portable version, this is self contained and can be run without installation.

Run Revo and and uninstall MMS 2023, when this is complete the scan for left over files, folders and registry entries should appear, delete the leftovers after checking that they all relate to MMS 2023.

Additionally, uninstall all the Extra Content that was installed there will be multiple entries win Widows settings, Apps, Installed apps. You may still have the downloads in the Magix Downloads folder if you opted to keep them on first install.

Reboot your computer and ensure that Windows 11 is up to date.

Re-install MEP 2013, activate and test.

It would also help if you put your computer specification in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

See this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

Hey John

Did everything, including uninstall of all satellite products of Magix, using Revo. Rebooting after uninstall and after reinstall. Same result. hangs exactly on the same spot.

I added my system properties to my profile as you requested.

Interesting though that after complete uninstall it still remembered my license id. i only needed to activate with all the fields already filled.

I verified in between that there are no Magix folders on the system.

Any ideas how to go on from here?

@Amir-N

Hi

Thanks for the system specification.

DELL Inspiron 3593, 16Gb memory, Intel i5 CPU, Display driver NVIDIA GeForce MX230, Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 x 60 hz, OS: Windows 11 Home

Is the Intel integrated graphics chipset enabled in the BIOS of the laptop? Depending on how Dell have configured the laptop this may have been disabled.

I suspect there may be a conflict with the i5 integrated graphics chip and the Nvidia MX230.

Side note: once the prgram is running fully the MX230 cannot be used by the program for Importing, Processing, or Exporting h.264 (AVC) or h.265 (HEVC) video - it does not support NVENC encoding.

I would suggest you raise a Support ticket, link is at the top of the page, select Movie Studio, then on the following pages scroll to the bottom and select Contact/Email Support then follow through the following pages, include the full model number of the processor as well as the information in your profile.

For whom it may concern in this forum - running the app as administrator - works.

CubeAce wrote on 1/31/2024, 3:16 AM

@Amir-N

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

In that case make sure your login to Winodws has Administrator privileges and you should be able to open the program normally.

Also your system specs shout be put into the Signature section of your account here rather than the About section.

That way if you have further problems, anyone trying to help you out will be able to reference them without having to leave the topic when replying to you and may help speed up response times to your enquiry.

I'm glad to see your current problem is sorted. Happy editing.

Ray.
