@martyn-h

Hi adn welcome to the forum

. . . . Sony PD170 mini dv recorder DVCAM, by a wirewire to thunderbolt  led . . . .

Do you have a Firewire 400 or 800 to Thunderbolt active converter in the lead or as a separate dongle?

If not just connecting the camera via the lead is not going to work.

Is this an active converter - if so what make/model?

@martyn-h

Hi

The elago firewire 400 to 800 adapters, I can find, do not mention conversion of the firewire signal ie they are just an 'adapter' ie converting from one plug format to another and do not convert firewire signal to thunder bolt.

Are you running windows on a MAC if so it this using Parallels or Bootcamp?

Oh, should I have got a converter instead of adapter?

I don't know about parallels and bootcamp?
