Who are you actually buying it for: your brother and his friend or for yourself?

If it's for you, and you like Music Maker, then there may be no need to "upgrade".  Or, you can "upgrade" to MM-MX Premium for $99.

If you need a higher level of functioning, you may want to consider a true DAW like MAGIX Samplitude Producer for $199.  With it, you can do multi-track recording and have full MIDI support.  However, you would need to be a real musician to use it to its fullest potential.

Since you didn't tell us anything about your wants, needs, talents and abilities, there's not much else we can offer.
