In general, I would agree with you, if the question is, for example, about which editor can do a certain effect.
Getting back on topic, I dissected your video clip showing MMS failing, thank you for that, it helped me a great deal. I succeeded in duplicating what was happening in VPX 16, see the video below as
This looks like a bug zeroing the Alpha video level settings triggered by switching the Alpha direction 2 times, and is not specific to any image or video format you apply it to, or whether you use play or drag the cursor.
While the setting can be restored manually, it reverts to 0 again after a 2 flips of direction.
Ray can you also test please.

Hi John.
I can't replicate that behaviour as in the video threshold of either video channel changing / jumping of its own volition using VPX14 through altering the alpha direction arrow on a video or stills object while using the Chroma key effect.
I am getting other odd behaviour though using black and white graphics with a transparent alpha background while changing the directional arrow on a video clip or still. White goes black. Black disappears and won't come back regardless of arrow position. Clear sections remain clear regardless.
Deleting the Chroma key effect restores normality in all circumstances.
I also have a dim memory of complaining about using the Chroma key effect some time back using files I was producing using Boris Particle Illusion but that was layers not lining up and causing different problems that too I think only seemed to effect mov. files with a 4444 extension.
