Mobile site fails to load

Fraser-Mowat wrote on 8/27/2019, 12:18 PM

Using Xara 16 we created a site with a mobile variant. Main site works fine, but mobile site will not load on a phone unless you turn it to landscape. Even then, although it will load the index page, it does not always respond and move to other pages. Thought at first some of the mobile site was over 480, so we made sure all content was under 480. Still not working. You can try it at www.hewwine.com

@Fraser-Mowat

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . but mobile site will not load on a phone unless you turn it to landscape . . . .

The mobile site will not load at all on my Android phone!

Looking at the HTML it would appear that there is a redirect, for mobile devices, to www.hewwine.com/m/ - is this from the template used to create the website, or has it been added manually?

I have several test web sites created by Xara Web Designer with several different templates, on a local server, and none of them have a redirect to a different folder for mobile viewers, the mobile device is detected and the appropriate CSS styling is applied to correct for the screen width.

Thanks John. Xara has been stubborn about uploading directly to our third party provider, so I have exported and uploaded using Cuteftp. We originally had the mobile site built a little wider and I read somewhere that I needed a "m" file for the mobile side. So yes, I manually added it, and just put all the exported files in it as well. Since, we have narrowed the mobile variant. I just took out the "m" file. Still have loading problems. I am also having problems with Xara right now since the last upgrade. It errors when you try to publish. I am awaiting reply from Magix on this.

@Fraser-Mowat

Hi

The site still has a redirect to the /m/ folder, there is a javascript entry that contains the following redirect:

<script type="text/javascript"> <!-- if (screen.width <= 699) { document.location = "http://www.hewwine.com/m"; } //---> </script>

that has not been removed or the host has not been updated.

Hi

. . . . what file that might be found within? . . . .

It should be in the Web Properties dialog under the option shown below.

It does not show up on the Web Properties page, but it is in the html index page. should the script be removed completely or just pointed to hewwine.com?

johnebaker wrote on 8/28/2019, 1:49 PM

@Fraser-Mowat

Hi

The script should be removed, if it is pointed to hewwine.com, this will create a loop and the site will never load.

. . . . It does not show up on the Web Properties page . . . .

Odd something has to be inserting the script.

. . . . We originally had the mobile site built a little wider and I read somewhere that I needed a "m" file for the mobile side . . . .

Was the site originally developed by a third party and a customised template created?

If not what was the original template used for the site one of the Web Designer template files and if so which one?

Added:

I have just checked and the redirect appears on every page, so it must be in the global HTML (Head) option Website tab in the Web Properties tab
