When the audio system is set to MME or WDM, the app doesn't recognise inputs from my MIDI-Keyboard.

When the audio system is set to ASIO, the system recognises inputs from my keyboard and I can see the volume bar/VST reacting to the inputs but there is no sound (Same with setting the default MS GS-Wavetable as the output on the piano roll instead of the VST). 

Outputting commands to the Keyboard is not a problem and if I set the output device to my MIDI-Keyboard, I get the echo (obv cus the keyboard is both in and out at that point).

Is there a Setting that I am missing?  I have created a controller, checked MIDI-Thru is active, checked the default input/output devises.
