Thanks for your answer and the link. My product is Maxig Video Saver, sorry. Unfortunally I didn´t check the compatibility of the Video Saver and Windows 8. Perhaps there will be un update-files for the usb-drivers someday.

I will be waiting for it.

There are updates for the Magix supplied USB video capture drivers available here -

http://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download/tools - you need to select the correct one for the video dongle you have and whether they will work with Window 8 I do not know.

If you have a different manufacturers USB device then you need to look on their website to see if WIndows 8 drivers are available.

Hello, my problem didn´t solve. I tried to install those updated drivers, but there wil be always the message "The certificate of the signature is not valid" . So Magix doesn´t support Win8.

You can not bypass this error - it is from the windows installer not Magix.

Hit your Windows key and then type in “Windows Features” select Turn Windows features on or off. This dialog should appear

Check that you have Windows Identity Foundation (WIF) 3.5 turned on - if not turn it on and click OK.

Magix told me my current Video Saver was no longer useable and that I would have to buy the latest version. Other companies where I have purchased software valid up to Windows7 have given me a link to upgrade to Windows8, but not so Magix. That's what I call a rip-off.

What sort of company is it that turns away potential customers?

How long do you expect a software company to support an old version of a product that worked on an old windows operating system?  Should they rewrite code for Windows 1.x, Windows 2.x, Windows 3.x, Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows RT, and Windows 8.  If you were a shareholder of a company, how far back would you want your software products to be compatible?  1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, or 2013. 

Magix has many of their products that are windows 8 compatible dating back to Windows XP  2003  ripp-off, I think not, name me one video editing program that is Windows 8 compatible back to 2003 with a free update,  and I am talking about the big players, such as Adobe, Corel, Pinnacle, Avid, etc.  You will not find one.

A software company could guarantee you a free upgrade path to any new OS version that Microsoft chooses to implement, but what do you think the inital cost of that guarantee would be?  Probably 10 times what you paid for the program in the first place.

You  clearly have no clue on how the software business works.

ps, I do not work for Magix, no one here does.  I am a professional video editor, and comments such as "ripp-off" simply annoy me when the person writing the comment had no clue of what they are talking about.  Magix Video Saver 2.0 came out in 2009, Version 1.0 a year earlier, how far back do you think it should go?

Of course, you are quite right George, but then again I don't profess to be a genius in the world of data. I purchased the product in 2010 when I used Windows7, and like other products would have expected it to last a bit longer than 2,5 years. I purchased a new digital camera in the UK last year only to find that when I went over to Windows8 two months ago, the software that followed with the camera was not compatible. I sent an e-mail to the company concerned and they returned on the spot with a link for updating from Windows7 to Windows8. Now that's what I call good customer service.

I'm not the sort of person who has to have all the latest Apps, in the data world I'm happy just as long as things function. No I'm not familiar with how the software business works, but if 2,5 years is not accepted as within a reasonable time to send out a link with an upgrade, then yes I think it's a rip-off.

As a point of interest, I've worked thru data for the last 30 years or so, starting with a Commodore 64 and going the grades thru to todays Windows8, so you might understand I'm not exactly a new beginner in the field.

Thats what I call an acceptable request for the lifepan of the product - cameras have a lifespan of about 5 years so software upgrades should be available for that period of time.

Software has an average lifespan (ie support window) of only 1 - 2 years.

The box says version 2.0. Don't think it'll be of any more use to me, is there a market for used Magix Video Savers on e-Bay, LOL. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the equipment.

Like most of todays electronics I think it's a terrible waste. I grew up in an age where we used everything to the max and then more by repairing, not use and throw away after a short period of time. But such is the world of modern technollogy.
