Magix Movie Studio 2025 TRIAL

AnnTH wrote on 4/13/2025, 4:27 PM

I cannot get this software to run at all.I am using Windows Pro 10 with 3 internal drives. The C: drive is a fast MVMe.The E: drive is used for general storage and the D: drive is a 240GB SATA which I do all my video editing on. It is always cleaned of my work after I have made a film so it is empty to begin a new project when needed. I have contacted the builders of my Tower PC and told them of some problems I was having. Adobe software refuses to recognise my 2 Asus burners so they told me to go into Device Manager and update all the drivers for most devices. I did this but everything is still the same. My Graphix card is an Nvidia GT 70 bought last year after the original one failed. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15.0 is working correctly so that is the only one I can use at the moment. Please can you help me to get the this program to work properly. I am at my wits end. Ann T-H

Hi Ann

Is that a typing error? An nvidia GT 70? If it isn't a typo and the rest of the specs of the computer mentioned in previous posts is what is currently trying to run the program then there is a possibility the computer just doesn't have enough grunt to run the program effectively.

It would help tremendously if you could give us your computer's complete specification. The last specification we were told was

Win 7 OS, 64 bit Intel (R) Core(TM) i5-2300cpu @ 2.8GHz 300GHz.
It has 8 GB RAM

But that was Rob's machine. I don't think we ever got Ann's.

Ray.

Hi Ann.

Sorry I wasn't aware as I just looked at the few previous posts to try to get a handle on what may have been a problem. The GT 710 video card may not have recent driver updates and could be one cause of the problems. Support for Kepler based nvidia cards officially ended in 2023.

The KF variant of the i9-9900 processer does not have it's own graphics chip so no help there.

What you could try is to go into the program settings via the top tool bar in the program and go to

Program settings / Program, and open the device options tab and change all the settings for import, processing and export to use the CPU. Depending on the file types used and resolution of the project it may or may not work better. If the program at least works but not well then I'm afraid you may have to replace your graphics card to something newer.

The other option is to try to enable Microsoft WARP device instead of CPU in the above settings page mentioned.

I have found though the results can be mixed. You could also try a mixture of both those choices with say two set to CPU and one to Microsoft WARP device. Try mixing the settings up to see if one works better than another set of settings.

Please let us know how you get on.

Ray.

Hi Ray, I will try some of the things you have suggested but I must admit that some of the other things you mentioned I do not have a clue about. I feel like complaining to the builders of my PC that they should have offered a better replacement Graphics card when it was replaced last year. All my specifications to them on the original build was video orientated. I will have to try tonight because I am helping a femail friend in the computer group I have been going to for 25 years. She has just changed internet providers today and i am helping her to setup a very ancient club PC running Windows 7. I will be in touch soon. Thank you. Ann.

Hi Ann

@CubeAce commented: 'The GT 710 video card may not have recent driver updates and could be one cause of the problems'

The GT710 cannot be used by Movie Studio to do decoding/processing/encoding of video, it does not support a Nvidia feature called NVENC.

. . . . I feel like complaining to the builders of my PC that they should have offered a better replacement Graphics card when it was replaced last year. . . . .

The graphics card was released in 2014 and IMHO is not a good match for the processor which was released in 2019.

. . . . recognise my 2 Asus burners . . . .

Can you see the 2 DVD burners in Windows File Explorer?

If not, what make/model are they?

Do note that the trial version has some restrictions, mainly in features available, video formats supported and it may also be restricted to export 3 mins of video only.

Hi Ray & John EB, This is what I did last night. I tried some of your suggestions but it was a disaster. I changed the settings in the program to use the CPU and actually got something on the timeline but it was all jerky. Tried to burn a 3-minute film but failed. Was told, “unfortunately the Function ‘MPEG-2codec’ is not available due to licencing conditions”. So I exported it as an MP4 and burned a DVD using CDBurnerXP. I played it on my Bluray Player on my TV and it was total rubbish. I tried for over half an hour to update the graphics card but could find nothing. I down loaded GeForceExperiance_v3.28.0.417exe and ran that. I was told it was not a viable system configuration, is not supported by this instance—sent me elsewhere but got nowhere. The next step is for me to ring the builders of my PC. I can see me having a row with them because originally I specifically explained that I wanted the PC for video. They had to change the Graphics card last year because the original one failed. They could not have looked at my original notes specifying video. My husband and I have been dealing with the builders for more than 25 years. I will mention your reference about support for the Kepler based nvidia cards officially ending in 2023. You might wonder why I am only just finding out about all this. The reason was health problems. I have been very fit all my life but 2 years ago in June I had to have my Gall bladder removed. When I was scanned for that they discovered cancer in my right kidney. So that was removed last June. That really knocked me for 6. I am now doing OK and have been in a walking group for 25 years. We walk 3 - 5 miles every Tuesday. I am doing about 100,000 steps a month. I play indoor short mat bowls Wednesday afternoons, so more exercise. I am in a computer club on Friday mornings and help to teach there. As a last resort I can still use Vegas Movie Studio 15 Suite. My 2 Dvd burners are ASUS and are seen in Explorer. Thank you for your help. Ann.

@AnnTH

Hi Ann.

Looking at the old spec and your new build it looks like they replaced the graphics card with the identical model you already had. PC builders in our experience have little understanding of what is needed. The result you got using the CPU was what I expected to happen. It at least proved the base system is sound. Your processor with a decent graphics card should suffice and you don't necessarily need a new one but ideally it should have at least 4GB of vram, cope with Direct X12.1 and have at least a 192 bit bus. You won't be able to run the newest of cards as your power supply may not have the correct power outlets for them or your motherboard may not support the card fully and be a waste of the additional cost.

I think you should stick with nvidia for the onboard encoding of some video formats. If you can find one a 2070 or 3060 would be good enough. Even some 10 series may be capable but a 2070 or 3060 previously mentioned would be a safer bet. Even those will not be cheap as nvidia hiked it's prices up on the newer GPUs, inflating the prices in the second hand market. I would also only source a card from a reputable reseller.

If that is too much then perhaps using Vegas 15 if you can get it to run on your operating system may be your best bet for now. Don't expect prices to go down on GPUs any time soon.

I am sorry to hear of your health problems. We all suffer somewhat as the years pass but pleased to hear you have improved. It is also good to get out and about. Personally I get my exercise from my volunteer work but that is sporadic at best.

Is there anyone at the computer club that could help you change your graphics card without going through your builders?

Ray.

Hi Ann.

Overnight I have been thinking.

It may be that the reason your builder didn't put in a different graphics card may be one of internal case space. Some of these cards can get quite large and because my own case is a tower case that is roughly 2'4" square by 10.5" wide I tend to forget other people may have smaller cases with ATX motherboards that are somewhat smaller. Although if you are running an i9-9900KF that would require quite a large heat sink unless the computer is water cooled which I doubt. Best to check your case has enough internal space to accommodate a larger GPU first.

There are normally larger and smaller versions of the same graphics cards so you may still find one that fits if you do have some internal case space problems.
