Loss of folders

a-g2776 wrote on 1/16/2021, 7:33 AM

Overnight, the majority of my folders (saved projects and recordings) have disappeared. I am not a tech expert but I do know where the 'Delete' button is and I haven't used it. I've tried the Recycling Bin and my son has helped me look for them but they cannot be found. Devastated - hours and hours of work. There was a Windows 10 update a few days ago but I can't see how this would affect anything. Any help would be much appreciated. ;o(

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Have you tried a Windows search for file types rather than folders? That may show the locations of the files.

If you are using external drives have you tried plugging into a different port or tried changing over leads?

Ray.

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Although I am not sure this is actually a problem with RYVT, and hence relevant to this forum, I do understand your pain!

I'm going to make certain assumptions but I suspect the problem may well have been caused by that Windows Update you mentioned, especially if it made changes to your computer's security settings, especially those concerned with Hidden Files and Folders.

Where, by default (assuming you haven't changed the default) does RYVT save all your files and projects? Whatever the answer the first thing I would do is to open an Explorer Window for the drive where your video files and projects were saved, go to the View tab, and make sure the "Hidden Items" box is ticked. See my screenshot below:

Now, are your files visible?

One other thought: if you open RYVT and open any recent project (assuming there is at least one you can access) do all the video files then appear in the app's workscreen?

And one more: do you have any sort of external drive which could have become somehow "disconnected" from your computer? f so, is that where your video files etc. are stored?

Please post back and let us know whether, or not, any of these ideas were useful to you.

Thank you for replying.

My son (tech savvy) and I tried everything to find the missing folders and in the end I started from scratch ... sort of like a frustrating Groundhog Day. This time I did use an HDD rather than naively assuming I would do it at the end in one huge joyful blast of the past.

I'd just got back to approximately the same position today (about a dozen tapes converted out of lots!) when the sound briefly went, followed by a loss of everything. Black screen, no sound. :o(

I've tried taking the Magix stick out and putting it in the other USB slot (and then back again) and have checked none of the other cables are loose but this has made no difference. I've tried restarting the computer and swapping the video recorder too. The last recorded tape still opens, though.

Is it just me or is this not at all 'Easy'? What makes it more frustrating is that there seems to be no quick way of contacting the company.

As we are fast approaching the deadline for return of the item, I fear that's the way it will have to go. ;o
