List of Soundpools

gjonny wrote on 5/8/2021, 2:11 PM

There are 2 lists of Music Maker soundpools...

1) @SP built a comprehensive list, in csv format. There's a link to the download in this post (towards bottom of thread) :
  https://www.magix.info/us/forum/hard-to-find-soundpools-where-loops-are-located--1271431/#ca1657632

2) I recently discovered MM2021 (v29x) also includes a list of SoundPools.  It can be found here:
  C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Database\SoundPoolDB.xml
As the file extension indicates, the list is in xml format.  This is readable by Internet Explorer, and some Office-type apps.
How many soundpools...?
a. When freshly installed, the unregistered Free edition had only one Soundpool ("Music Maker - Feel Good").
b. In my full Premium edition, there are 75 Soundpools listed.  This includes the 14 I've acquired as a new user (through Credits and freebies).

Whether earlier versions (MM2020, MM2019, etc) include this list, I don't know.

@gjonny

Thanks for this.

Just one "amendment": MM2021 is version 29, not 25 as you wrote above.

Hi,

Good find!

Please remember that there is no Premium Version only Premium Edition; Music Maker has versions of the program, it's free, and everyone gets the same thing. A Premium Edition unlocks or gets you Features, Presets, Instruments and Soundpools. Soundpools are not linked to any particular version of Music Maker, nor are they necessarily linked to any particular Edition. You get credits for them and spend the credits on the Soundpools that you want. Before the invention of the in-program Store, things were not the same. Any Soundpools that you got were not necessarily registered with Magix (I have CD's with Soundpools) unless they were purchased through CATOOH. Music Maker did not know where they came from.

Currently, I have dozens of Soundpools from before the in-program Store; they show up under ...Soundpools, but not under Shop. I also have 54 that show up under Shop.

When I Add SoundPools within Music Maker the first time, I have it scan the entire folder:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

As far as I can tell, these are all added to the xml file. At the beginning of the xml file, it shows "soundpools count = 221." Included in the file are Live Pads, of which I have 23. That means I have 54 under Shop, 23 Live Pads, and the balance, 134, purchased or obtained outside of the Shop. I didn't check the entire file to see if there was anything else.

I noticed that the xml file gives a "shop_uid" to all Soundpools with the exception of Live Pads, even those obtained outside of the Shop.

Anyone know how to import the xml data into Access? I tried. I got tables with empty cells, even though I asked for structure and data.

Hi John

Looking at the data you would have to write a script to do the import to match up the Instrument loop name etc correctly.

I opened it in Excel no trouble and I guess once it's there it's fairly easy to get into Access.

@emmrecs, @browj2 ... thanks for the corrections. I've revised the original post accordingly.

@browj2

Thanks for the historical perspective. It seems a number of things changed with MM2021, not just going to 64bit.

It's been a while, but continuing the conversation. . .

I've written a small viewer app for the SoundpoolDB.xml file.  It takes the the xml data and translates it into a more readable tree-type of view, minus many of the xml tags. You can d/l it here:
https://c.mail.com/@647104060209503572/Qeg_c1vUTMOlOWpO_o7PrA

It's 32-bit, will run in Win 7/8/10 (11 untested). The app is unsigned, so you will likely get security warnings at download, and first run.

The app has been updated, so you can now also listen to Soundpool loops. Find the new version here:

Okay downloaded Okay. So why have I got a blank page?

@Gochikku

Try clicking on File>Open>MM SoundpoolDB (shortcut Ctrl+M).

@Gochikku

The "blank page" does throw one off a bit if you haven't used the app before. I guess I could have used a preliminary "chooser" window. Having said that, there is also the Help file included in the zip -- it shows the keyboard shortcuts.

Note also: the app has been successfully tested both in Win 11, and in MM2024.

I have opened it now, thanks. It shows all the info that I need.

I am creating a spreadsheet of all the soundpools by BPM. The idea is that you will be able to mix soundpools by BPM easily by looking at this chart.

If it works for me I will post it on here as I could not find anything like it when I searched.

Good idea.

It's not clear from your comment -- are you planning to harvest the data from my app's screen?  There is an earlier comment from @Graham-Hawker in which he says he successfully opened the xml file in Excel.  That would be a more direct (and easier) starting point.

Edit: also, if you haven't already, do have a look at @SP. 's spreadsheet list (see link in first post, above). My app shows a list of a user's current soundpools (those that came with the program, and those purchased in-store). His list is much more comprehensive, I think showing most soundpools to a certain time point. I don't think it's been updated for a while, but it's still a good resource.
