Is there any way to limit the MIDI input to specific key range?

Is there any way to limit the MIDI input to a specific key range? For example, I play keyboard bass & would really like to be able to just limit the bass sound to just my left hand. However, all of the bass sounds go up into the middle C range or higher & get into my right hand's range. Is there any way to limit it to stop at a specific note?

I do not think so, at least nothing I can discover, but I am hardly proficient with MIDI, I just know enough to get me in trouble, and squeak my way around a project.

Perhaps one of the other more proficient users can address that differently, but I do not find a way to set a range.

I don't have any version of Samplitude, so take this for what it's worth.

What you are asking about would be a user-defined keyboard "split".

There are no controls in MIDI for this function.  It is likely a function specific to the controller keyboard/synth that you are using.  In other words, it is not a MIDI function but a feature of the hardware.  You would need a keyboard capable of this function.  Some keyboards only have a set (fixed) split point.  Some keyboards may be capable of multiple splits.  Each section would be sent over a different MIDI channel.

Obviously, I am not aware of all of the features that may, or may not, be available within software instruments.

Can you tell us what keyboard you are using?  What do intend to play with this keyboard, i.e. hardware or software?

Thank you both for your replies. I realize that some of this might be done via a MIDI keyboard, however, that's not what I'm trying to with this. I would like to have it setup (for example) with my regular keyboard that's set for MIDI channel 1 & have it trigger two instruments at the same time (so far, Samplitude can do this easily). One instrument would be a Piano they plays the whole keyboard & the other instrument would be the Bass & it is only plays the notes from E0 to Eb2. Many times VSTi can do this itself, but neither VITA nor Revolta2 can do it.

It's a very common feature on almost all professional MIDI recording software, from inexpensive software like Reaper & Mixcraft (both cost less than Samplitude) up to Sonar, X1, Logic Pro & Pro Tools (which all cost far more than Samplitude). Cakewalk software does this through a MIDI plugin. Something I don't see in Samplitude. I see VST/VSTi, DX & DXi but no MIDI plugins. There aren't any in Samplitude right?

Is there a place to ask for feature enhancements to the software? Like I said, this is usually a 'given' in the MIDI world, so maybe they'll add it in future update. Of course, I just bought this a couple of weeks ago & I have no idea how often or if they ever do updates. It just seems odd that Samplitude can do all of the great things it can do & not do something that even the cheapest MIDI recording software can do.

Again, thank you both for jumping right in to try to help me. I appreciate it even if I didn't get the answer I was hoping for.

I suggest asking on a different forum too.

Samplitude Producer is derived from the Samplitude/Sequoia professional product line. From my understanding it is just about an exactly duplicate, but consumer rated for everyday systems and standards.

If you check out www.samplitude.com, perhaps you can get information from their forum. I would assume 90% of it would apply to your product as well.

I use Samplitude, but not for MIDI. I am old school audio here... sorry I couldn't be more assisting.

Actually you just solved a big problem I didn't even know I had. I've only owned Samplitude 11.5 Producer for a short while & I didn't realize that Samplitude Pro & Samplitude Producer were not the same product until you pointed me to the REAL website. I didn't realize I had purchased the wrong software all together! I can't believe I did that. What a bonehead I am.

Anyway, "Thank You" for helping. Now, if you can assist me with one last thing, please. How I can "close" a thread or mark it as "Solved" or "Resolved" or whatever the proper thing is?

I thought I would write a bit more on this so that if anyone is looking at this in the future would also have some additional info on this subject & Samplitude, Samplitude Pro & Samplitude Producer & their functionality etc.

When I went to the Samplitude website I downloaded the fully functional demo of Samplitude 11. After checking out the demo for several days, I found that even the full version of Samplitude cannot do what I was asking about in this post.

I'm sure Samplitude Pro has additional 'bells & whistles' (that aren't available with the demo) that make it very cool, like the Vandal VSTi & the other SE plugins that are full VST in Pro.

But Samplitude Producer comes with Vandal SE (which sadly ONLY works in Samplitude) & bunch ofl the other cool little toys like ViViD (the MIDI drum beat gizmo), Vita, Revolta2, Century Keys, Saxaphonia, Jazz Drums, Rebota, Beatbox2, DrumNBass etc, I've been won over by Producer. Plus, I like the the GUI a little better in Producer.

Anyway, I just had to come back & say thanks again now that I feel better that I didn't spend all the extra $$$ for Pro, when I already had Producer. What a GREAT DAW!
