Is the current version of VPX reliable?

Hi,

No, you have not understood correctly. I guess that I should have indicated the various cases more clearly. Everything depends on the situation - whether or not you purchased or received a version while an Update Service was active.

There is no longer an Update Service if you purchase now (and there has not been for some time). Thus, you get VPX13 and patches until VPX14 (which you will not get for free). If you have to reinstall VPX13 in two years, you will get the last patch that was issued.

Hi Jeff,

Again, it all depends on the situation - purchase/upgrade during the Update Service program of after it.

During the Update Service program, when you paid you were locked in to the version/patch available on that date - forever. You would still get patches and upgrades but subject to losing them if you had to reinstall beyond the end of the 1 year period, assuming that you did not renew.

The reason why you would not get the patches upon reinstallation is because they were mixed in with new features which could only be locked in by paying for them - again. As far as I know, there is no final patch that does not include new features issued during the version cycle.

Example: I had to reinstall Xara beyond the service period. The last version that I had was 16, and not the last patch because my 1 year ran out.

When I reinstalled Xara, I got version 15 patched to the date that I last paid - not the patch at the end of the version 15 cycle.

Xara is still under the Update Service program. As soon as I paid again during the version 18.5 cycle, when I run version 15, there is now a patch available for version 15 - it was not there until I had paid.

Back to VPX. If you have to reinstall VPX that you got during the Update Service program and your 1 year period has expired, you will get whatever was available when you last paid. No patches. Unless, of course, Magix is feeling generous and has changed the rules (which I doubt).

As far as I recall, VPX13 is the first version that does not and will not have any new features. If VPX13 was the active program when you last paid, you paid for it and future patches that you will keep, even if you have to reinstall. The same does not apply for VPX12, which was still under the Upgrade Program and subject to its conditions.

It gets down to what the conditions were when you last paid - during or after the Update Service program.

Those who have purchased the HumbleBundle VPX12, got the last version issued, including interim new features.

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I've tagged it as the solution, because it is consistent with the reply Magix sent me today, which is as follows:

When you buy the VPX 13 individually, you'll always have access to the newest patches for it ... The one year of the Update service you'll receive will allow you to use VPX 14 for a time. After the one year has ended, you'll only be able to install VPX 13 and the newest patches for that version, though.
You are not limited to the newest patch that was available at the time you have bought the program.

Thanks!
