I believe you can use any transition you want, as many times as you want... there is a dependency on the computer performance for these 3D transitions. 

If you have a lengthy project, you might want to break it down into shorter segments, then complete each and export. In the end, bring all together in a final project using the transitions again between the exported pieces.

But, I have used the same transitions between objects before, it works just fine.

I have another problem. I have three scenes, for example, lasting 5 seconds (1, 2, 3) and I want to do door-type transition between scenes 1 and 2, lasting two seconds and take same type of door-type transition between scenes 2 and 3, lasting 2 seconds.
The effect is that the first transition is a door-type and the second is the standard crossfade.
