Normally, when you delete an image from the timeline, if you use the garbage can, the blank space will be deleted. Or use Ctrl+Del to delete the slide and the gap will close up. Or switch the mouse mode to single track and then drag the right object to the left. Everything that is to the right will also move. Don't forget to switch back to normal mouse mode afterwards.
