Hi

IIRC they do install into different locations. You can install the DVD without removing the download version however you will then end up with both versions with 2 soundpools etc.

I backed up my projects to another folder, uninstalled MM17 Download and installed the DVD version then I copied the projects back to the new project.

First of all you got Music Maker 17 not Music Maker 17 Premium, which means Music Maker 17 is a standard software with lesser styles. INext, when you install download version there will be few styles you will have to install more by download from the Magix website.(may be you already have done it)

You also got DVD even if it is a download backup DVD or boxed version DVD it is better than having download version because in downloading sometimes we miss some items.

If you want to install DVD version it will be wise before you uninstall Music Maker click "Y" key on keyboard when Music Maker is open then click on Folder Tab and make a note of the folder's path. You will know where files are saved and after uninstalling please check if there is any left behind item delete that. Refer screen shot from MMM 16 Premium.

But remember when you will re-install Music Maker it might add same Soundpool styles so you will get same styles twice. To avoid this after installing Music Maker(DVD) on computer keyboard click "Y" key under General Tab look at the right USE THE SOUNDPOOL EVEN AFTER RESET and un check it then click ok. Doing this will avoid double style problem. Refer screen shot from MMM 17 Premium.

I think you should also read this PDF tutorial just to learn more about various soundpool problems.

Note: as Johnebaker has already said, before uninstall backup all your necessary data of Music Maker if you got any.
