How to create a Visitor Counter using Web Designer 17 Premium

ukjingles wrote on 8/21/2020, 9:30 AM

Hi,

Could anybody tell me how to add a Visitor Counter Widget to my web site that I'm creating using WD17 Premium please?
There's an video from 2018 stating there's a widget in the "Content Catalogue" for WD365 Premium which is not there anymore...
"Counter Widget (new)"

Thanks,

Hi

. . . . how to add a Visitor Counter Widget to my web site . . . .

If you want to display a counter for the number of visitors to the website you have to use a third party product product to generate code which you insert into the web page, to display the counter - this is how the 'widget' worked.

The count is done by the 3rd party you use - search the Internet for Visitor Counter you will find them.

Hi John,

Yes I found a few but I can't understand why they removed the Visitor Counter Widget from the "Content Catalogue ALSO more importantly when you create a counter in a third party product it gives you some html code but how do you insert that into the top corner of a web page that you building?
On the Video mentioned from 2018 you can just paste the widget straight over to your web page......

Hi

Thanks for the link, it is the one I thought you were referring to.

If you look closely in the video at 3:20 you will see that the 'widget' connects to a 3rd party product to generate the code to add to the web page, the 3rd party site actually doing the counting and returning the count to your web page.

Hi John,
I just couldn't understand why this widget had been removed from the Content Catalogue in such a short space of time as it would definitely make the job a bit easier!
I also noticed a lot of the video tutorials are for much older versions (which look completely different to v17)
Some of them don't even play.... 🙁

Can I ask another question..
I notice while I'm creating a new page (Index.web main) on WD17 there is also another window open (Index.web Mobile) I'm working on the main page but nothing changes on the mobile page.......I know this is for viewing on Mobiles but what happens to this page and how do I use it when I've completed the main page and ready to export to HTML?

It is possible that the company the widget was using objected or removed co-operation - we will never really know.

Normally you would not edit the mobile versions, they show what the main site would look like.

When publishing you only get the main site with extra scripting in the head section of the HTML which detects whether the viewer is using a mobile device and which browser and adjusts the styling used to fit the mobile device screen.
